    Breeding

We started our alpaca adventure back in 2015 and we have been working on our herds genetics since that day. We select our breeding animals based on their fiber consistency throughout the entire fleece, body frame, and low micron fiber.

We have participated in local halter shows as well as national shows and our alpacas have always placed high when competing. Most of our herd is in the top 10% nationally and some herdsires are in the top 1%.

  • Shearing

We started providing shearing services soon after acquiring the first members of our herd. Raul learned how to shear in Peru using scissors and was able to teach himself later how to shear with an electric clippers.

We now provide shearing services to small farm operations or hobby farms around the state. If you are looking for shearing services, don’t hesitate to contact us and ask for scheduling and prices.

  • Fiber Products

People always ask us, “What can we do with our fiber once it is taken off the animal?” We manage our raw fleece in a few different ways to be able to provide our customers with the highest quality fiber products.

Our fiber is carefully sorted and skirted soon after shearing. Most of the fleece is sent to fiber co-ops where we get most of our products made. Our highest quality fiber gets sent to local fiber mills to be made into yarn. The remaining fiber gets used for bird nests or given to wild animals.

Hillsboro Alpaca Ranch LLC started homing Suri alpacas in December of 2014. The idea of starting an alpaca operation began when our family took a trip to Peru. One of the owners, Raul, (a native of Peru) quickly showed us the impact that the alpaca has had on the rich Peruvian culture. These curious animals stole our hearts, and we wanted to create an alpaca ranch that embraced the history and cultural influence of these beautiful animals for everyone to experience.

In just over six months, our alpaca ranch has rapidly grown to include both Suri and Huacayas. People who are passing through cannot help but notice all of the alpacas leisurely roaming in the pasture. We welcome you to stop by our ranch to receive a tour and learn more about the alpaca!

Our farm is now located in the beautiful town of Poynette, WI, just 30 minutes north of the state capital, Madison.
