We are pleased to announce that Whitney Snow will be featured at AOBA Nationals for 2013. ARI is featuring the the top 5 Animals in the nation for EPDs for the 5 measured traits. Our Whitney is top for Mean Curvature i.e. Crimp in the nation. Whitney Snow is another of our primary foundation dams. She too is in the top EPD ranking for fiber finesss. Whitney is a full sister to our Herdsire Arapaho Snow's Macchu Picchu. She is currently bred to Hemingway's Bogart. We are hoping for another foundation female from this pairing with Studmaster Bogart.
Whitney did not dissapoint us with the birth of her first cria in Contender's River Sampson. Sampson's EPDs are in the top 1% ranking amongst the 14,000 alpacas tested in 2012. His first histogram AFD is 15, just what the EPD's predicted. Contender's EPDs nearly match Whitney's and are in the top rankings. Whitney's cria Sampson has coverage and staple length and all those fiber traits that Whitney is lacking provided by Contender, but inherited the intense fineness like his mother. We found even more improvement with her 2nd cria bred to 101's beautiful Herdsire Skywalker's Saber who had the right match of EPDs to compliment Whitneys fineness, improve density and staple length, which he did. Colusa Riverside Alpacas breeding process is to take the best of our dams EPDs and breed to the best EPD of other traits the dam is lacking, taking care not to diminish the any of the progress made in the breeding program to date. The beauty of EPDs is you can assure breeding outcomes and plan breeding predictability by pairing alpacas based on their EPDs. Hemingway EPDs and Snowmass EPD heritage all around this girl.
