We purchased Karley to overcome a shortage of Dark Shaddow females that is the line we choose as the foundation of true blacks. It is the Dark Shaddow pedigree that we are breeding Knighthawk of KPR, Patagonia's Mondavi, Patagonia's Lennox, Patagonia's Nishio, Grand River Amstel, Patagonia's Montero, Patagonia's Admiral, and Crescent Moon Velocity for the next base line of true black alpacas. This may appear as a random selection of males, but each has been selected for specific pedigree and characteristics. All have contributed to our development of a line of true black alpaca without going to other colors to gain improvements such as fawn or white. Our results are exceeding our expectations and time line and are already reaching fleece characteristics rivaling many whites (one of our goals is to produce solid true black huacaya to compete with whites) but primarily our singular goal of 20/10 - 20 micron and 10 pound shearing weight.
