GURU came into the world on Saturday morning, November 8th at about 10:30 a.m. He was born to the sweet and lovely, Sandhill Mahogany Rose ("Rosie"), and he is her second beautiful, well put together cria...and her second grey! Rosie has exceptionally fine fleece, at well under 20 microns at over 2 yrs. and pregnant! She's been maintaining in the "royal" range, too.
Guru is the son of the world-famous, highest selling grey huacaya male in the American alpaca industry....SHAQUILLE. One can clearly see and feel the incredible quality from his parents genetics Guru has received.
Depending on the light, he's silver or rose grey (lol!). Guru's fiber has more crimp than I'd dreamed for & possesses supreme sheen & extreme density, like his sire's. He feels super soft & silky, so a very low micron is expected from this boy when a histogram is done on his fleece. I like to wait until the 2nd and then 3rd shearings for that, though, as it is the best benchmark for what he carries genetically & as a mature male. His dam's super-low 19 AFD when 2 and pregnant, and his sire's outstanding fiber characteristics in all categories (check out Shaquille's listing) give me high expectations for a remarkable score across the board.
Guru's maternal grandfather is the one and only, pure Allianza, late, great 5PERUVIAN QUECHUA...a champion dark rose grey stud who left an indelible mark on the American alpaca industry's herd quality before his sad passing.
Combining the incredible genetics of Shaquille's lines with Rosie's Quechua traits has produced an outstanding, high-potential, new stud-on-the-rise! It would be great to see what he could do in the show rings but unfortunately, getting off the farm to get him to shows has been impossible thus far and time constraints due to a personal family-care situation has curtailed that for all the Close-Knit owned alpacas.
Assuming Guru continues to develop as expected based on initial assessment, Close-Knit plans to keep this stellar boy as a stud, available to service the Close-Knit breeding program and those of clients. Give him a try! We're going to try getting him started in 2011 beginning in July, and see if he's ready. Check back for updates and new pictures, and let me know if you have any interest in this male's genetics for your own quality huacaya herd in the not-too-distant future!
