Calliope is a beautiful appaloosa FIBER GIRL with gorgeous blue-ribbon-winning fleece! Very few can boast so many colors and shades of fiber on just one alpaca! Everything from light fawn to brown and medium rose grey as a base!
Calliope has a very dense fleece with a uniform micron within the staple. Her crimpy fleece is well organized and she has got a ton of it! The quality of her fleece is not surprising when you look at her lineage. She is a granddaughter of the spectacular beige herdsire DPF Ramon, and daughter of Cactus Mtn. Timoteo Lucilio, a stunning cross of the PPeruvian Timoteo and Dom Lucilio lines. Her dam's sire is from the Peruvian White Out line, and her dam's dam carries all of the color back to the grey import, SA Karrington.
Calliope is a non-breeder. After three breeding seasons resulting in no pregnancy, her case was looked at by one of the world's leading alpaca reproductive specialists. All of her tests, physical characteristics and behavioral characteristics indicate hypoplastic ovaries.
For the hand spinner or fiber artist looking for that special exotic-looking addition to their fiber herd, Calliope is your girl! To date, her fleece has earned three first-place ribbons, including the 2012 AOBA National Conference, placing over Magical Farms!
UPDATE: Calliope now lives at our vet's farm, and we still get to see her! Our vet discovered that she prefers the company of sheep to other alpacas, so Calliope is contentedly living with a few sheep and is quite happy with the arrangement!
