New Boys on the Block

We have 2 new males both out of Jeepers Accoyo Sonic and both with very nicely locked fleece. The older one is named Stetson and the younger one is Flash. They are having a great time running and pronking thru the pastures.

Welcome Levon

We brought SGF Ace's Levon to the farm yesterday. He is a vocal male and caused quite a stir with our other animals both alpacas and dog. He is a beautiful dark offspring from the 09 import CPeruvian Accoyo Ace. He is ready to start his breeding career.

losing Contessa

It has been a difficult week with shearing and one of the females taking ill shortly afterwards. The following day we saw 2 local vets and then drove her to OSU to be treated for collapsed lungs. We are still not sure what happened but she coughed a lot after shearing/teeth trimming. She then had labored breathing and low body temp. OSU treated her successfully for a couple days but Contessa passed away today. We are so sad to lose such a sweet girl (and her unborn cria). We will miss you but still have your 2 daughters here to remind us of your time here.

Waiting for Spring and Alpaca 101

We had the big "thaw" this week and all our snow and ice has melted. It had been on the ground since New Years with only a brief thaw then and several previous weeks of snow in December. It's been a long time since we have seen the ground. Of course, all the animals are anxious to get out and play but the pastures are too wet and muddy for now. We have started some halter training in anticipation of spring shows and shearing. We expect to attend the Indiana show in April and Buckeye in May with shearing in May.

Our Heart of Ohio group is hosting an Alpaca 101 Seminar Feb 27 at AJ's Alpaca Ranch in Navarre Ohio. Please contact us for more information. It's a free seminar with basic information open to anyone with interest in alpacas.

We are waiting for spring!!

Happy New Year

A little bit of thawing taking place in the pastures. It's been a frozen place for several weeks. The animals are venturing out more as it warms up. We will start to see the days getting longer and brighter (hopefully). This weekend we are weaning the cria from moms. We'll let you know how that goes.

Getting ready for Christmas

Our pacas are all snuggled all snug in the barn while snow flakes are fallilng and the full moon is shining behind the clouds. It's a beautiful winter's day and the animals are all awaiting more hay. The summer cria are all growing to adulthood and will soon be saying goodbye to their moms who will be moved to another section of the barn. Time for the young ones to grow up..
Merry Christmas to all.
