Puppies & Fodder

Looks like we only have one puppy left from Sophie's litter (DOB 3/20/13) We have a little marked female who will be ready to go to her new home in a couple of months. Here's what another Pyrenees breeder had to say about the puppy they bought from us: Sandman, 6 mo. old puppy from Randy Coleman’s last litter, has the best LGD instincts we’ve ever seen. He’s going to be HUGE, Sweet puppy. Thanks, Michael & Sherry (Pacas & Pyrs).

It appears the Fodder Brudders have gotten our fodder b read more...

Fodder Saga update: Back to square one!

It's what you DON'T see that matters

It's what you DON'T see that matters

Lots happening on the farm - including our first "Hmmmmmm - what happened?" in the fodder room! This was going to be our best harvest day yet - increasing our yield each day has been exciting. But.......there was something else in our trays besides lush green grass and a healthy root base - mold! OMG, where did THAT come from? Fodder update

Wow.....We have fodder!! Check out this picture - fodder, fodder everywhere! Girls are loving it but still eating their usual amount of hay. Almost a week into feeding fodder and each day they are gobbling it up, all the way to the last root!

Another week and we'll be checking weights on the fodder pen of girls - we anticipate weight gains, even though we've stopped graining this pen. But, the next part of the trial will be switching their hay to a less expensive, less palatable hay. read more...

Fodder system coming soon!!

7-day fodder system

7-day fodder system

Well, I knew this would be tough but can't believe it's been 3 weeks since I put up 1st (and only!) blog! Things are moving ahead on the farm with the beginning of our small, test fodder system. The "Fodder Brudders", aka Randy & Randy, have begun our Fodder journey with planting of 1st tray yesterday. After spending many hours/days on the web, at the drawing board, and bouncing ideas off each other, we're one step closer to feeding healthy barley fodder to our herd.

Today is the day!

OK, I've finally succumbed to the Bloggers of the world! Will attempt to keep current farm updates here-check back often and, if I'm faltering, please don't hesitate to hold me to doing this!

Yesterday we visited with a local farm as we were interested in how they sell, off the farm, their packaged meats without having them processed by a USDA butcher. We are entering the phase of needing to do something with our culls in our herd. We all have them, we all want to know what to do with read more...
