Max meets Santa
Our kissing alpaca is at it again. Kissing the ladies, children and even Santa!
Friday the 14th of December was Girls Night Out in Stevenson Washington and Cedar Creek Alpacas was a guest at the local newspaper. I guess you could say we have an "in" at the paper since I work part time there.
Many folks in town have heard about Max the Kissing Alpaca so we decided he could help greet visitors with Santa.
Max got to work right away with an adorable little one that came for a visit with her mom and grandma.
Though the young girl loved Max she wasn't so sure about Santa. Poor Santa.
Many people of all ages came through just to see Max. He was a hit!
After a while Max got a bit restless so we went for a walk on the town to visit the businesses downtown. Our first stop was Robbies Coffee Shop. Max was very interested in her board outside the shop. Robbie enjoyed her short visit with him.
Next stop was Bloomsbury, a lovely flower shop that also has many wonderful gifts. Max was invited in and had a little tour of the store. The resident cat didn't appreciate the visit but the shoppers loved it and took photos with their phones! Max actually climbed 5 stairs to the upper level to say hello to shoppers up there. The only problem was when we decided to leave from that level he had to go down two stairs and he was not too happy about that! He needed a little help from me. I have to admit I as a little surprised since he went up so easily but maybe it was because it was dark outside and he was just not too sure.
Next stop was A. Boutique. A nice clothing store. Max received very nice compliments on his fleece being so soft and that he wasn't even dirty. Well, he is a black alpaca. Black hides that dirt well!
It was time to head back to the newspaper office to deliver more kisses.
Max liked our office Christmas tree. Such a curious boy.
We love Max and feel blessed to have good PR boy so we can share our love of alpacas with the public!

Hayden meets Max and Maverik
My most favorite part of raising alpacas is sharing them with others. This week has been filled with that joy!
We had a tiny visitor yesterday. A two year old named Hayden that had no fear of the alpacas or our other farm critters. To me that is unusual. Most of our tiny visitors are afraid of these big fuzzy creatures.
What is great is that my alpacas are so curious about the little kids. I think they can sense that they are something special!
Hayden insisted on calling them llamas even though his grandma and I kept telling him they were alpacas. But he also tried to tell them to stay and to sit so that he could walk up to them and pet them. So adorable!
After meeting the cria we introduced Hayden to our yearling boys that love people and like to share kisses.
Max of course was at the gate ready to greet Hayden. Maverik was not too far behind. Hayden kept trying to feed them hay but that just confused the boys. So I got some dandelions and we fed the big girls over the fence. Rosie was the only taker when Hayden tried. The others were too shy. They were just trying to figure out this little guy!
Hayden ended his visit with a look at the pigs and then checked out our antique plow.

Max Rockin' the Oakleys!
Our Cedars Maximilian has proven to be quite the little star! We spent this last weekend at the CABA Classic Alpaca Show in Portland Oregon. We took Max and his buddy Bentley to show and had such a wonderful time.
Max was born to be a little star! From the time he hit the ground he has been a curious little fellow and has become quite the lover!
This entire weekend he would stick that sweet little head out the pen and demand that you take notice.
Hey you! Come here and give me a neck rub and I will give you a kiss in exchange!
I so enjoyed watching all the children hang around the pen to get their kiss from Max. He was very willing to kiss them with those velvety soft lips and nose. So gentle too. He is certainly hard to resist with those big black eyes and sweet face!
While sharing his fine feeling fleece with a young lady from Japan our son decided to put his Oakley Sunglasses on Max and low and behold he just stood there and looked through them like it was no big deal. Maybe those lights were a little bright for him or maybe he just knows how cool he really is!
Cedar's Maximilian is a true black 8 month old boy sired by Wille's Bravado and his dam is CCR Pearla.
This boy has some super bloodlines including Sinopsis Nocturna 527.
In fact while visiting with our neighbors at the show, we found out that his grand sire Sinopsis was the same way on their farm. Very friendly and huggable.

The Fantastic Five
This past Fall was a very busy one. We had five cria born within one month. I have to say it has been one adventure after another with these five fuzzy little ones.
Our first cria that was born was from our Lovely Ballerina Moon and she gave us our first girl of the year. Her name is Gabrielle. We call her gabby for short. She is our shy girl that prefers to stay close to mom. Catching her is always a challenge. She has her mothers size being over 70 pounds at 4 months old. Her sire is The Duke of Cascades and has a good dense coat with fineness.
Our next cria was born two days later to our beautiful true black dam, Pearla. The minute Max was born we knew he was special. He was so alert and was up and running within the hour after he was born. He is now our most social cria. I am amazed that he responds to his name and is our kissy boy! This boys sire is a beautiful grey boy named Wiley Bravado. We are looking forward to showing max this year in the Spring. His fleece feels so fine and is coming in quite nice!
Next came two Cria born on a Sunday morning, September 11th. Our sweet Queens Lace gave birth to our Rocky boy. When he was born I swear I had never seen such long legs! It was only a matter of time before those legs started working and he was up and nursing. Queens Lace (Lacy) is a super mom and so gentle and patient with all of the cria. She takes after her dam, Iris. Rocky is the son of the late Sir Accoyo Custer. His fleece is super crimpy and I look forward to seeing him grow up!
That same day our girl Alexis Dion gave birth to our second girl of this cria season. Alexis was still at her former home. We didn't want to move her so close to her due date. She gave birth to a beautiful light fawn girl with the most beautiful eyes! We have named her Amazing Grace. We call her Grace and she is another one of our more friendly fuzzy kids. Funny, I just realized that she and Max have the same herdsire and I wonder if it is a temperament that he has. Of course both dams are very mellow and friendly too. I feel so fortunate to have such wonderful alpacas that are easy going. Grace's fleece is changing weekly and she is also a big girl. She is keeping up with Gabby!
Our final little one was born on September 26th. Our McGwire daughter, Rose, gave birth to the most amazing little boy. Maverick's fleece is so unique and so shiny! Some say it could be a Silky fleece. His fleece lays like a suri's fleece and is so soft and shiny. There is crimp to his fleece and I am curious to see what his 2nd fleece will come in like. He is full of spunk and even though he is a couple weeks younger than the rest of the cria he keeps up just fine! His sire is Rainman.

Our TV stars!
We had a little snow on the ground when we got up this morning. I was very surprised to see all of the alpacas tucked inside the barns. Usually I find them cushed in the snow, especially Amorette! It was so beautiful this morning, quite the winter wonderland. I took the opportunity to take some snowy photos. The snow was still coming down and made for a fun photo shoot!
It is so much fun to see the cria get all excited about getting out to run in the snow and to chase each other. The moms have seen it before but they get a little excited too!
In the Columbia River Gorge, where we live, we get snow off and on and this was a cold front that the news was reporting on. They asked for photos of the snow in the Gorge so I posted one on their facebook page. Much to our surprise they included our photo during the weather segment on the 5 o'clock news! Our alpacas became TV stars!
The winter wonderland stuck around all day. Glad it was only a couple of inches. When we get feet it makes it so much harder to get around and shoveling paths can be a challenge. However, they are worth every minute of work we do. We love these fuzzy kids!

After a day of snowfall
Today was our first snow of the season. It is always so much fun to watch the cria get all excited to see their first snow. I unfortunately had to work all day and missed seeing all the big flakes. But when I got home we still had a few inches and a little daylight. I took a few photos of the cria playing the decided I better get busy and get the chores done before it was completely dark. Alan works for a tire company so being the first snowfall they were slammed and super busy which meant that the evening chores were all mine.
All I can say is these alpacas were hungry today! I had to fill every one of the hay feeders this evening and I stocked them up before I left in the morning. Dragging the hay wagon was a bit of a challenge but it was still easier than making several trips back and forth with stacks of hay in my arms! I must say I am getting some muscles in my arms with all of this farm work! Good work out! I am thankful for the heated water buckets as well. No breaking ice for me! Well since my last blog we have had three more babies! Friday September 9th we had a beautiful black male cria. He is absolutely beautiful and is so personable! We have named him Maximilian. This little guy will come right up to us and give us alpaca kisses. There is nothing better than alpaca kisses!
His dam is CCR Pearla a true black girl that is very friendly as well. His sire is Wileys Bravado. He is a very macho grey boy.
Two days later our sweet girl Lacey "Queens Lace" had a beautiful very dense white male. His sire is Sir Accoyo Custer. This little guy has the longest legs and is growing fast. It took him a while to get used to those long legs but he is running around like a crazy boy now. We have decided to name him Rocky. We are really looking forward to seeing how this boy matures. Like I said he has nice dense fleece and it is very bright and crimpy!
That same day, September 11, Our newest girl, Alexis Dion had a girl up at Blond Velvet and me, Carol and Ricks farm. I have not seen her yet. That is my plan for this week, To get up there to see her and to bring the two of them home in a few weeks after Alexis is bred again.
So as you can see we had a busy week last week. I was so glad to see the cooler weather. It was difficult to keep the little ones out of the sun on those 95 degree days.
We have one more to go. Rose is due at the end of the month. Her belly is getting big but she seems comfortable. The anticipation of this next baby is so exciting. We are really looking forward to seeing what Rose delivers!

Moon with Cria less than an hour old
It has been a very long Summer waiting for our first cria to be born. Seeing all of my fellow breeders across the country welcoming in their new cria since Spring has been fun and we are finally experiencing the fun here on our farm.
This past Tuesday September 6th our Ballerina Moon gave birth to a beautiful girl! Her delivery was perfect and Moon was a strong girl this year unlike her experience last year with her first birth. Last year she seemed so confused about what was happening to her and after Bentley was born she didn't even look at him! This year she instantly bonded with her little one and has been very attentive day and night!
We haven't named our little one yet. I am trying to see what her personality is like and want to pick the perfect name for her.
Her sire is The Duke of Cascade Alpacas from Hood River OR. She is the second girl on our farm sired by Duke.
Dukes Peruvian Lily was born in 2010.
We are still waiting patiently for the next 3 cria to be born on the farm. Two are due any day!
