Poor B. Dylan

We are still in the process of "breeding" I don't know how people with 200 animals keep everything straight. I have a tough time sometimes with 8 animals. Hopefully some of them have taken. Our breeding male is going to wither away to nothing. He paces the fence all day. And I mean all day. Woke up at 1 am because I heard the warning call from the girls (turned out to be nothing) and poor B. Dylan still pacing the fence. He really can't see them, but he knows where he would like to be.

Our baby chicks are getting huge, starting to fly. God I can't wait to start getting fresh eggs again. Only another 5 months.

It will be another week before I get back here, we have my husbands family coming for a week, so I will be somewhat busy.

Have a great 4th of July.

Breeding

Again I have waited way too long to write. Our winters are sooo long that when this nice weather gets here I have a hard time staying inside. As usual summer time is a busy time. Gardening, flower beds yard, animals, kids etc. Anyways we have started breeding. My husband wanted to try field breeding this year as four of our girls are going to be bred to our stud. It was quite interesting. We seperated the girls who were to be with B. Dylan and brought him over the next day (so everyone could settle down, they were a little upset being separated. Mom from her little girl also) Brought Dylan over, two seconds in the gate he bolted for the first girl, she did a couple of circles, couple kicks one spit and BOOM down she went. He hit two more after that. Holy Moly!!! He went off, ate and drank, had a smoke. lol just kidden. Our guard llama was on the other side of the fence with the other girls who were waiting for a different boyfriend, when Dylan spotted Alister (llama) All hell broke loose they started fighting through the fence and Dylan jumped right over the fence, no running start, right there four foot fence and over he went. I couldn't believe it and he was just going at poor Alister who was like "what the hell". Minding his own business, he took it hard. Needless to say we ran in finally got them separated and took Dylan back over with the boys. He has been pacing the fence ever since. The second time we brought Dylan over we left Alister in the barn, it went quite differently the second time. Dylan walked in walked up the hill and proceeded to graze, paid no attention to anyone. Oh well we'll bring him back over in a coupl of days. Enjoy the sunshine and have a great day.

long overdue updates

It has been quite awhile I know, we have been crazy busy. As well as everyone else in the world.

Let's see... what has been going on on the farm.... We got our baby chicks on the second. They are so cute, but don't stay that way for long. We have had some major flooding and destruction in our town. Lot's of roads have been washed out, some people even had to move from their homes. Slowly everything is being reconstructed.

The carpenter is coming tomorrow to start our new deck. I am so excited.

Garden is finally all planted we have even gotten some lettuce that I had started and left in the greenhouse. Delish.

Gotta get back out side now, I wont have anything to talk about in the next few days.

spring colds

I know it's been a while since I have blogged. I haven't been feeling quite up to par this past week. Quite a cold. Two of our children went to high school prom, so we have still been busy. We are getting ready to go away for the week- end. Seems like it takes a week to prepare for that. Why, I don't know. We have someone who comes and stays here. They take care of all the animals and keep the kids in line.

It is still raining. I hope this is no indication of how our summer is going to go.

No news

Not much going on, contracors came to measure for our new deck. We will get a couple more estimates and hopefully this thing will be built this summer.

Vet comes again today to give the donkeys their spring shots and give Angela (one of our foundation females) an ultrasound to see if we will be expecting a cria this summer.

Off and running again. Stay dry. It's difficult for us. Supposed to be rainy and crumby the next 10 days.

Roxy

Spent a good portion of the day yesterday preparing pastures. We moved the girls off the lower pasture up into the upper pasture. We limed and fertilzed. We also moved the boys into their upper pasture. Today we limed and fertilized the lower. I have blisters on top of blisters. Roxy (our boxer) certainly got her exercise she was right beside me the whole time, back and forth back and forth with the spreader. She slept very well. Oh by the way, the "hot wire" we put around the garden to keep the dogs out. Never had to turn it on. Thank god because I didn't want them to get zapped. Just having the wire there did the trick.

Well back to work, it's supposed to rain all week end get as much done outside as I can.

Mothers Day

Hope everyone had a great Mothers Day. I did! My kids are at the age right now they don't want to spend a whole lot of time with me, but my husband and I had a great week end. It's hard to get to the blog everyday, but I'm hanging in there so far. I just went to the local nursery and bought a few things I have been transplanting, so I am heading back out there. Later today meeting with another Alpaca farmer in the area, they have been our mentors, so today we are finally going to update our website and tie up a few loose ends. Enjoy the sunshine.

Shearing

Shearing went off without a hitch. We started at 9 and were finished and all cleaned up by 5. It was overcast and cool for most of the day finally around 3 the sun came out and it warmed up. It was funny to watch them when they were all sheared. They started running, kicking up their heels almost like they felt a new freedom. Now they all look like little babies. I got the garden planted with the cool weather crop. Lettuce, spinache, radishes, carrots, snap peas and got the trenches ready for my potatoes. Need to wait a little longer for them and the onions. Of course all the other stuff. Can't plant that untill the last full moon in May.

Gotta go do chores..

preparations

The garden has been tilled and ready for planting. We just need to put some hot wire around it to keep the dogs out. I will be planting the cool weather things i.e. lettuce, radishes, carrots, snap peas. I'm sure I am forgetting to mention something. The flower beds are pretty much done. I have put composted manure in all them, turned them over, they are awaiting mulch. We have been getting prepared for shearing tomorrow. That should be a very long day. Hopefully it is nice and warm for the alpacas

We are talking about putting on a new deck off the back of the house. We have one now, but is not looking it's best...I am having a tough time deciding what I want. That will all have to wait till after tomorrow, too much to do right now.

My new tiller

Well Happy Easter everyone.

Two days ago Wayne and I went shopping and bought a new tiller. Our other one is a front tine tiller and I have been using it for years. My darling husband got sick of seeing this thing toss me around and decided he would buy "me" a new one ( a cub cadet rear tine, to match the mower). She sure is a beauty and I couldn't wait to try her out yesterday. When I ever lifted my head off the pillow and saw all that snow flying around, I put the covers over my head and stayed there. The snow stuck too, we had an inch on our deck rails. UUUGGGHHH!!!

Today is supposed to be a nice/warm day. When we get back from Easter brunch from my brother and sister-in-law's I plan on turning up some dirt. I can't wait I've been told she is the cadillac of tillers.

I haven't taken a picture of it yet, when I do I will post it.

Have a Happy Easter.
