Nemaha Hill Farm is a small working farm that specializes in offering top quality Alpacas and Katahdin Hair Sheep. It all started more than ten years ago when we purchased an acreage in Nebraska and decided to grow grapes......that led us to finding a totally "green" way of keeping weeds out from under our grapes. The result was our plunge into raising Katahdin Hair Sheep..sheep that shed. (There is irony in this story somewhere.) How easy, we thought! Well, see our website at www.nemahahill.com or www.khsi.org if you are interested in learning more about Katahdins. THIS story is about our alpacas!
In early 2011 we went to look at a "lapaca", as a possible guard animal for our pasture raised sheep. We found ourselves in love with our two lapacas - Raven and Doris, whom we purchased. However, they had the most beautiful fawn colored full blooded alpaca there for sale as well...DB Charlie Parker. ( Back in the early 90's, I had fallen in love with alpacas when we visited a farm in Iowa. Alpaca pricing was very high at the time, and our family was very young...actually not even a thought yet, so we could not afford to purchase breeding stock at that time.)
Well, we came home with Charlie as well.
Since that time, we have visited with many farms, and researched bloodlines, histograms and decided on our farm's direction. . It is a similar direction to what we offer with our Katahdins...except with a lot more shearing. Offer the best breeding stock you can, continue to improve your stock via EPD's and research. Use the product you produce, and offer a superior product and customer service, be honest and try and help others in reaching their alpaca goals. Listen to those who have been in this business longer than you AND no animal is sacred (except as a pet), always keep the goal of producing the the best FLEECE you can. That is what this animal was meant for. So we are on our journey.....let us know if we can help you with yours.
Please visit our individual alpaca pages. We have been very fortunate to have purchased some excellent foundation stock.
Side note: I have always been an artist, in both stained glass or painting. In the coming months, I hope to offer fiber paintings and functional fiber art for sale. Please check back in at a later date to view. Thank you!
