William

Prince William

My name is Miranda Sires. I bought my first alpaca at the beginning of the summer of 2011, a juvi named Prince William. For a few years prior to that, I volunteered at a friend's alpaca farm, Stone Bluff Alpaca Farm. I learned a lot, and ultimately bought William. He was a model first alpaca for me, even allowing me to halter train and show him with minimal problems. With him as a starting point I'm slowly forming the hobby that I hope will eventually become a business.

Personally, I have a preference for huacayas. With their fluffy faces and unique topknots, they instantly captivated my attention. So, needless to say, I've focused all my studies on huacayas and plan to have an all huacaya farm (until otherwise stated). As for my breeding program plans, I haven't really settled on anything 100%. Although, I am certain that I'll be focusing on fineness and fleece production to the greatest extent.

Throughout the three years I've been investigating the alpaca industry I have noticed a marginal difference between each breeders definition of a trait. For example, one breeders definition of 'fine' or 'dense' may be different from your own. So, I will give you my honest opinion, but I can't guarantee you will be of the same mind. For this reason, I want to try to give as much information in each alpaca's profile as I can.

I am still new to the business, and still learning. Though, I will probably continue to learn new things for the rest of my time in the alpaca industry. I lack experience with judging fleeces by touch, so I rely heavily on histograms and what I can see, but I will try to be as accurate as possible. "Honesty is the best policy" is a philosophy I believe in and will incorporate heavily.

From here it's a wild card of sorts, so I'll just have to see where it gets us for the time being.

My herd of two is brought to you by Snowmass Invincible, Presidio, Snowmaster, Misty Maiden, Camelot, Camilio, Auzengate, Felix, Caligula, Hemingway, Legacy, and Royal Fawn.
