Located at 3000 feet and nestled between 4 ridges on the southern slope of Buffalo Mountain in Southwest Virginia, Ocotilla's Mountainside Alpacas is a Veteran Owned small farm with a lot of warmth and natural beauty. We started this adventure in February of 2012 from a strong desire for our love of animals and our caring nature. Having been to Peru 5 times Alpacas seemed a natural extension of our love for animals and the Andes mountains in Peru.
Our farm focuses primarily on the healthy psychology and physical health of our Alpacas. Our Alpacas are fun to watch as they graze, look around (they are curious about everything!), communicate with each other, and the little ones having fun chasing each other around. Secondary, our focus is on good fiber health and with a new breeding season approaching we will only breed those Alpacas that will have the purest and strongest attributes, fiber and conformation, in their genetic make-ups.
Finally, but certainly not last, we would like to thank those who got us started in this remarkable and fulfilling extension of our lives. We would like to thank Celestine Ridge Alpacas in Greenville, NC for helping us start with our first Alpacas. Thanks also go to Peaceful Heart Alpacas in Fancy Gap, Va for offering training opportunities and free advice. Lastly, a very special thank you goes to William & Candace Frey of Hope Springs Farm in Willis, Va for their never ending help, time and sharing of their adventures. We wish you all the very best.
