Welcome to our farm!
We're glad that you found us on Openherd. Please take a look at our sales lists and enjoy learning more about our farm. We welcome your inquiries and questions!
It's cold. Summer left too soon but Fall is beautiful. Hay is stacked in the barn and we're looking at new fencing, irrigation, organic fertilizers, alpaca compost, new trees, new shrubs and hydro-seeding the pastures with "Panorama Gold", a formula developed just for the Ranch. We never have to wonder about what to do next, this is a work in progress.
Shearing went well, gorgeous fleece was sorted and much was sold to fiber artists. More was set aside for our custom rugs. This year Panorama volunteered to be an Oregon fiber collection spot for the new "Alpaca Blanket Project." We wanted to find out what it entailed and were pleasantly surprised. Farms both near and far followed the simple directions, brought fleece and we filled our equipment shed with 1,200+ lbs. Baling was an interesting procedure requiring us to use young Meghan as a stuffer, masher downer. Lots of laughs...we filled 11 bales and sent them off to Wisconsin to be further sorted.
Big decisions were made for the herd. For expansion we added new champion females with totally different bloodlines. and bred all eligible girls to outstanding males, with new colors, new characteristics and loads of awards. Next year's cria should be exceptional. These girls off the sales lists and placed in the Foundation category until their cria arrive next Spring. All will be assessed at that time.
The males that have not met our breeding standards but continue producing marvelous fleece are now in our "Fiber Geldings" group. Their fleece is quite marketable and they are too valuable to disregard. They will continue working for us, setting a higher standard for the generic term of "fiber herd." There is a second category for Intact males with one proven and three very exciting young up and coming males.
Panorama is comfortable in presenting to you the alpacas on on our Ranch. They are top producers of quality fleece and excellent breeding genetics...great potential for upgrading your herd. All prices are tailored for the current economy. If you're a beginner we'll hold your hand through the process of becoming an alpaca owner and breeder. We're always available with support and guarantees.
The Ranch continues to receive remarkable exposure. The 2013 Sisters Annual Outdoor Quilt Show featured Panorama and was most successful. The Quilt Show will use it as a "venue" for a photo shoot for the 2014 Quilt Show 2014 calendar. We have been asked to participate in a scholarship fund raising event. And OpenHerd continues to be a valuable marketing venue, a great way to advertise our way of life.
Panorama visits continue, no matter the season. We're always open for visitors. Call for a private tour, bring your cameras, notepads and questions.
