Spring is sort of in the air. The high desert days are getting warmer, nights are tricky. The snow covered mountains are beautiful. The ground thawed and we started developing another 3 acres for more pasture, giving us a better rotation plan for these avid grazers. We also have cleared more acreage for native grasses in order to get our water rights certified. Lots of work, lots of new fencing, irrigation, organic fertilizers in addition to our alpaca compost. Busy time.

The 2013 shearing is just around the corner and we can only hope that this year's fleece will be as successful as in the past. It's a big job but we are looking forward to shearing because the fleece shelves are empty. We have fiber artists buying whole fleeces, custom rugs orders take a large portion and of course the Pendleton alpaca throws are most popular.

Here at Panorama, the males and females that produce marvelous fleece but do not meet our breeding standards are now in our "Premier Fleece" group. We have started with Jack, Pinnacle, Brocado, and Paso Doble as the first "members." Their fleece is quite marketable. They are too valuable to disregard, so we've given them this new designation. They will continue working for us, setting a higher standard for the generic term of "fiber herd."

The Ranch continues to receive remarkable exposure from putting select alpacas on the OpenHerd auction pages. Numbers of visitors to the site and inquiries have increased threefold. We will continue...it's a great way to advertise our way of life. Ranch visits continue even when the snow has coated the pastures. The alpacas love visitors...adds some interest to their days when there's no grazing and it's boring just hanging out.

Panorama is comfortable in presenting to you the alpacas on our sales lists. These are top producers...great potential for upgrading your herd and all prices are tailored for the current economy. If you're a beginner we'll hold your hand through the process of becoming an alpaca owner and breeder. We're always available with support and guarantees.

Visitors to Panorama come with cameras, notepads and questions. We are often asked for permission to copy our loafing shed designs which is a lovely compliment. and the answer is always "yes". You are invited to spend a leisurely visit with our gentle herd, our Great Pyrenees guardian dogs and the busy barn cats. The koi and goldfish in the now frozen irrigation pond are sleeping off the winter. Just call and let us know when you'd like to visit, 541.317.4623
