Dusty Acre Ranch is a small family ran Alpaca Farm located in Strasburg Colorado, approximately 30 miles east of Denver. We are on 2.5 acres within a subdivision and alpaca’s have proven to be calm, quiet animals that have low impact on the land, and can thrive on small acreage. Our first purchase was in the spring of 2011 with one bred female and female cria by her side. Not having a place to keep them yet they were boarded at the purchasing farm for a little more than a year while we built a barn and put in fencing. By the time they were brought home in the summer of 2012 we had increased our herd with the purchase of one more female cria and the birth of two males, bringing the farm size to five. We began participating in the showing industry in 2012 with one male cria and one female cria. They both consistently placed at all shows we were able to participate in and we were hooked. With participation in the show system we have been able to take the judges’ comments into consideration for our future breeding program, and have had it confirmed that our original purchases of good quality animals from great bloodlines was worth it. We have continued by obtaining the best breeds that we could to improve on the quality animals that we have, and we continue to focus subsequent breeding’s on improving the overall quality of our herd. We are now where we can offer some of these great genetics to you to begin your own alpaca farm experience, or add to your existing stock. Come visit us and see how you too can enjoy this great lifestyle.
