Reedley High School Farm Days

May 6 - 9 are Reedley High School's Farm Days, sponsored by the FFA. As part of the week's activities, we will be sending three of our young alpacas to be on display. All of King's Canyon Unified School District's Kindergarteners will be coming to the FFA farm on campus to learn about farming in California. That will be several hundred students who will receive hands on information about alpacas, how to raise them, what the end products are, and where to come to our farm to see them. FFA students will have a presentation board of information, teachers will be given the AOBA brochure to use in the classroom, and each student will be given a sample of fleece to take home. This is our third year to participate in this event.

Welcome to our ranch! We are in our sixth year of raising these wonderful animals and loving every minute of it. Well, almost every minute. Raking poop can have it's moments, I suppose. From breeding to showing and everything in between, it's been a learning experience that I only regret I didn't get involved in sooner, when I first was made aware of this exciting adventure.

In 1997, I saw a segment of the TV show "California Heartland" which featured an Alpaca ranch in California. It was my first introduction to these fantastic creatures. I sent away for some information and received a postcard of a beautiful pinto Huacaya alpaca. I placed that postcard on the refrigerator door and looked at it every day for ten years without doing a thing to start fulfilling the dream of one day owning my own ranch.

In late 2007, I once again saw an infomercial about Alpacas and got re-interested. I began to look on the internet, visit ranches, and ask questions of ranchers. I found that in the ten years I had been dreaming about owning Alpacas, many people had acted on their dreams and had done very well. I got very mad at myself (even asking people to kick my behind) for not acting earlier. And I decided to act! So, in January, 2008, my wife and I bought our first two pregnant females. We had our first cria two weeks later and we were on our way. We don't have a ranch of our own yet but that is our goal. Meanwhile, we are agisting our animals at a ranch in Reedley, CA where I also care for that landowners nine alpacas.

I've been teaching high school for 35 years, coaching sports many of those years, and my wife has been a full-time wife and mother to our three kids. They're all grown up now and as we look forward to retirement, we see how God has placed us in the position to take on this new venture, working with one of His most unique creations, to smooth out the stress points in our lives. I firmly believe that my blood pressure is already coming down.

Maxine has fallen in love with the individual faces and personalities of each alpaca. We never leave the farm without Maxine having at least one good laugh at their antics. It's easy to get really hooked on these amazing animals.

Our goal is to become one of the best breeders of Huacaya Alpacas in North America. Our goal is to breed the best American Alpacas possible for future fleece production by blending the best characteristics of Peruvian, Chilean, and Bolivian Alpacas with the Accoyo bloodlines. Our goal is to have the best customer service in the industry; before, during, and after the sale and even without the sale. What's important to you is important to us. What can we do to help you?

That's our story. We'd love to hear yours. Please, give us a call.

We offer financing on all sales of alpacas. Call for details.
