We are currently in the process of buying a farm to raise alpacas. We are new to this, and are learning more every day. We are currently exploring the subject of water.
The farm we are buying is fortunate in that it has both city water, and well water. The well water has been tested for potability, and is good. The problem is that the well has an electric pump which of course needs power to operate. The area local to the farm had a terrible rain storm reciently, and there has been no power on the farm for over two days. The city water is still flowing normally.
Here are my questions.
1. Is city water, with its normal chlorination, any better or worse, than potable well water for watering alpacas? Although it is normal for people to drink chlorinated water from city systems, is that same chlorination harmful to alpacas? Would the city water be OK to use on an emergency basis?
2. If the city water is ok to use for an emergency power outage, is it also ok to use on a regular basis?
