I have a female huacaya alpaca born from two suris. She has given me four female alpacas that are show quality. I have a customer who thinks she is inferior because of her parents. Is she? When I bought her I was told she was special because two suris can have a huacaya but two huacaya cannot have a suri. I paid alot of money for her. What is the truth about this genetic anomaly.

It all depends on the two suris! I have seen some really excellent huacayas from two suris and I have seen some real junk. I have also seen some very poor quality huacayas from two huacayas. Each animal deserves to evaluated on its own merits. If your alpaca has excellent traits and passes them along to her offspring she is no more or less valuable for having suri parents.

Bravo! And some huacaya fiber experts seem to PREFER huacayas from suri parents - something about density maybe?
