One of my pregnant females developed a severe case of projectile diarrhea today. I immediately called the vet and gave all of the health history. He suggested I research the internet for a recipe for homemade electrolyte solution to give her in addition to the other meds she was prescribed. I researched the internet and found a recipe that calls for 1 teaspoon salt; 8 teaspoons sugar and 1 liter of water. Has anyone used this before?

We make our own electolites based on our vet's recepie. It is one third salt, one third salt lite, and one third baking soda. We add about 1/4 cup to a five gallon bucket. We use it during heat or extreme cold in a heated bucket. I would not use sugar. We also occasionally add a bit of lemon juice, which the alpacas love.
