Any suggestions for which nutritional supplements are best recommended for alpacas in the Northwest? I'm currently using the same supplement as the farm that I purchased my starter herd from, but there are no special formula options for growth or reproduction. I'm currently considering Mazuri products.

I'm a suri breeder in Oregon, we have been in the industry since 2002, breeding since 2004. I love the Mazuri supplements and feel that the full range of products they offer pretty much cover most nutritional requirements for the alpacas. The result on our farm, after consistent use for 8 years, is healthy robust animals and hardly ever a problem. I'm definitely in favor of feeding alpacas wisely for good healthy production and well nourished FLEECE!
Now, for a hint on reducing the cost: most feed stores will give you a discount or price break if you buy in bulk. Share an order with someone.

Leanne,
Thank you for that. I thought I was alone with Mazuri since none of the alpaca ranches in the area use it. We have been strictly using Mazuri products from the start and have noticed a significant difference in our animals fiber this year. I thought our animals were nice when I bought them last year, but now they all look like superstars. They love it and dance around the pens when we give them their supplements in the morning.

You're welcome Yvonne. I just realized that your question was posted on Dr. Ruthanne's forum, when I thought I was in a different forum. So I might have spoken out of turn. Oooooops. Those dropdown menus are tricky sometimes.
Sorry Dr. Ruthanne- I did not intend to horn in on your forum. I'm not a vet, not even one teeny bit, and don't want anyone to think I am.
Good luck Yvonne. I noticed we are 'neighbors'. Call me any time! Leanne Eldora Suri Alpacas

We have had our local grain feeder produce both a pellet feed and a free-choice mineral. The pellets were produced using simillar ingredients to Mazuri and NuZu feeds. They also contain many of the same mineral levels, but are more tailored to what our alpacas need. We had trouble feeding the Mazuri because of the pellet size. Many of our girls choked on it. The mineral was based off of the Stillwater Mineral recipe, but again, is fitted to what we need
