Description

Duncan is a very handsome young male with an endearing curious and mischievous personality!! Although there is not an official "maroon" color on the ARI chart, he is the most GORGEOUS color of deep maroon (with almost a purple hue) and has black points (nose, ears, etc.) Although still growing, he shows nice conformation and a lovely silky feel to his fiber.

His dam, Nina, comes to us from the well known gray and black breeding program of Fleecy Dale Alpacas. She is a daughter of STR Lady Rain. Lady Rain was one of the top gray producing alpacas for Fleecy Dale whose lineage traces back to The Silversmith and SA Karrington. She produced multiple Blue Ribbon offspring in level V Shows!! Her offspring always had outstanding fleece characteristics, no matter who she was bred to--dense, fine, and wonderful hand. Fleecy Dale's owner held on to Nina until his final dispersement as he felt so strongly about the quality female she is and what she could produce. !! Nina was sired by Ring Ridge Smokey. Smokey was once owned by Snowmass, followed by the well known gray breeder, Fleecy Dale Alpacas (owners of Shaquille at the time!) Smokey was 1/2 Accoyo out of Pperuvian Pluro. Pluro was a rare white Accoyo out of Don Julio's best herd, with the ability to transmit wonderful color--including a few rare spectacular grays, like Ross and Silver Creek, that Alpacas of America own. Pluro maintained an AFD of 23.1 at 7 years of age! Pluro was exported to Australia after siring only about 60 alpacas in the United States. Smokey was conformationally perfect, and had VERY dense, fine handling fleece with beautiful character. He was a very solid, masculine male, and a strong breeder. Smokey's dam was a true black from New Zealand, meaning Smokey was unrelated to almost every gray and black female in this country. "Smokey" combined the fleece qualities of his renowned Peruvian Accoyo sire Pluro with the beautiful silver color that is so in demand. Smokey staked his claim to fame when one of his first offspring, High Desert Smoke, of Cienega Creek Alpacas, won the yearling gray male class at the Futurity in 2000. Smokey is now deceased, however, he sired over 60 offspring during his life, many of whom brought home the ribbons from large shows to their proud owners.

Duncan's sire, Kiray, is one of our herdsires and was a Black Color Champion. Read more about him on our herd sire section!!
