Details

Cecilia is a 2025 yearling doe from the blond bombshell Marilyn and Sir Issac Newton our Nubian LaMancha breeder.

Kiko goats were bred in the wet climate of New Zealand where a few farmers realized that the feral goats survived the heavy parasite areas. Dairy goat farms had heavy losses due to barber pole worms. Garrick and Anne Batten developed a strict breeding program to cross-breed the feral goat with imported dairy goats. The result was a dual purpose meat/dairy goat with strong parasite resistance. Kikos are also known for their low maintenance hooves. We rarely trim their hooves especially while they are free ranging. Kiko is the New Zealand Maori word for meat. They were first imported into the USA in 1992.

LaMancha goats are very recognizable for their little elf ears. Despite the Spanish name they are the only goat breed developed in the USA. They are a dairy goat with very good milk production and milk with high butterfat content.

Nubian goats, in opposition to the LaMancha, have large pendulous ears. Nubians are also a dairy goat with very good quality and quantity of milk. When cross-breeding with LaManchas they tend to either have one or the other type of ears, but either ear type produces very good milk quantity and quality. Seems that ears and udders are not directly attached.

Our goats are free ranged during the day while all of the delectable goodness is available on our mountain. They get plenty of exercise climbing and frolicking in the forest.

Beep beep!
Our goats have horns. Goat horns are alive and filled with blood and feeling. When disbudding a goat it is burning the horn off with either heat or chemicals. That can leave a hole in their skull and even into their sinus cavities. We spend time with our goats so they are gentle and they use them on each other not us.
