Farm Update

Wanted to take a few minutes to update everyone on the happenings here at Broken Arrow Ventures.

Our cria season has now ended and we can breathe and finally come off of cria watch. With this being our first cria season I was so happy that I took the time to travel to VA to do a neonatal clinic with Cheryl DeWitt, DMV. The course paid for itself with two successful assisted births....one being a 23.6 bundle. We were blessed with five female cria. Unfortunately we did have two cria that did not surrive....both were beyond our control. One had a CA and the other had under developed lungs according to the necropsy. We learned a great deal in the past couple of months and are more confident in our husbandry. We are thankful for our mentoring farms.

The new barn has been erected and as of today all the temporary fencing changes have been made. Both the boys and girls are now in their temporary set ups. With all the animals now out of the old barn it allows us to focus on tearing it down. The water and electricity still need to be moved. The final dirt work will need to be completed once the old barn is removed. We are hoping that old man weather holds out and we are able to get it done yet this year. If not all the animals are safe and sound in the temporary set up. It will be a good day when we can sit back and say the new barn set up, fencing, and dirt work are now the way we planned and no longer temporary.

Until next time,
