Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19, ESV
It never ceases to amaze me- the novelty of each season as it comes on the farm.
Spring has truly come in earnest now as we've had our first two rabbit litters, and now, just this morning, we've had our first Guernsey-Alpine kids arrive! Twin girls born to HigherGround Luna! She did beautifully, and completely unassisted births! In fact, had the children not asked to go outside to blow bubbles in the yard, I don't think I would have noticed the two kids. I NEVER miss a birth...until today. From the time I checked Luna this morning and noticed her pawing the ground (her typical early labor sign) To the time I glanced across the yard and notice that there were two extra critters standing next to her, less than 2 hours had passed!
We are so proud of both mom and babies- both weighing in at 5lbs, one with a light brown stripe running down her back.

I am reminded of the Scriptures in Isaiah, and Ecclesiastes 1:9. "There is nothing new under the sun," and yet, at the same time, there's a paradox of newness, restoration, rebirth continually at work within the world. Goats have been kidding since the dawn of their creation, and yet, THESE goats, born just this morning- fresh, clean, new and everso sweet- have never been before! I marvel at the complexity of God's design, and His provision. I stand in awe of the newness of life, and the rapidity with which it enters the world, unannounced, so quietly and settles comfortably into the norm.
It is a joy and an honor to walk out this stewardship; to foster life, nurture it, and to welcome it into our lives, however briefly.
Soli Deo Gloria!!
