What is the Affiliate Program?

One of the main goals of alpaca affiliates or associations is to help their members market their farms online in their geographical region or based on some other unique affiliation. However, this means each farm has to enter their farm and sales information all over again and try to keep it up-to-date without a system to make this easy and efficient. The Openherd Affiliate Program allows members to manage their sales information in one place using Openherd and display it on their association website without any additional cost or time investment. This program is open to any alpaca association or organization.

What's included and what's the cost?

The Openherd Affiliate Program provides each association with fully-functional search pages for Farms, Alpacas for Sale, Herdsires, Package Deals, and a full online Member Store. Each member then gets their own farm profile, sales lists, sales pages, storefront with Paypal checkout, and any other pages they have added using Openherd's "My Pages" feature. These are all displayed directly on the association website. Openherd will custom style these pages to match your association's website design so that the integration is seamless. The association will also get their own Openherd Affiliate account where they can easily add and remove member farms.

Both the implementation and styling of all the search and member pages is free for the affiliate, meaning that they won't have to pass on any costs to their members. Individual members get to display their sales information on their association website and on Openherd.com for free. If members want their storefront and products and services to be displayed on Openherd.com, this requires a paid membership.

Can this work for my personal farm website, too?

Yes. There are two ways this can be done. The first way is to use ListMirrorTM to display your sales lists on your existing website with the addition of a small snippet of code in your web page (click here for your code snippets). A better solution is to upgrade to Openherd PlusTM membership and get a complete, hosted website package that not only automatically synchronizes your sales lists but all of your Openherd pages, including your blog, additional web pages, and articles. Along with a full web page and website navigation editing system, this is the most cost-effective and time-efficient way to go for a complete online marketing solution. How can my association take advantage of this?

Implementing the Openherd Affiliate Program on your association website is straightforward and relatively quick to set up. Openherd offers both an option to add these features to the association's exisiting website or the association can opt to use an Openherd PlusTM website package for their entire website hosting, editing, and management. The latter option includes a complete site redesign, migrating existing web pages, and the ability for the association to create, edit, and manage all of their website pages and their website navigation using Openherd. Sales Lists

Members can display stunning, complete sales lists for visitors to browse right on their association website. Everything is easily managed in the member's Openherd account where they can keep pricing and other information accurate and synchronized.

Member Store

Members can add their own alpaca products and services to the Affiliate Member Store for visitors to browse and purchase right on the association website using PayPal checkout! Includes individual storefronts for each member farm. (Note: A paid Openherd membership is required for online stores to be displayed on Openherd.com).

Additional Web Pages

Exclusive Openherd MultiPageTM allows members to add their own web pages, blogs, and articles to share events, educational info, and farm happenings to draw in visitors and increase their farm's search engine results!

Do you have to be an AOBA affiliate to participate?

No. The goal of this program is to help individual breeders achieve better online exposure and marketing by enabling their local, regional, or national association to provide fully-featured sales information and searching on their website without the financial, technical, and time-consuming overhead of building their own system to achieve this.

Therefore, any alpaca association can participate no matter how small or large.

Will any Openherd member be able to add themselves to my association website?

No. Each association will get their own special Affiliate account on Openherd.com where they will be able to manage their members. Simply select farms from Openherd's list and add them to your association's membership list. It's the same if you want to remove a farm from your association's membership - just click a button and they will no longer show up!

How will things link to Openherd?

All of the search pages, farm profiles, stores, email contact forms, etc. are kept within the domain of the association, meaning that your members won't be redirected to Openherd (with the exception of online auctions). This means that everything is kept on your association website and full search engine credit is given to your association's website, not Openherd.com.

What is the cost?

There is no cost for the association or for its individual members. This includes having a free farm profile and sales lists on Openherd.com - a true 3-for-1 if you also sync your sales information to your personal website. Members do not need to have a paid membership on Openherd.com in order to participate in the Affiliate Program.

Openherd also offers complete association websites that are easily managed and edited through a special Affiliate account on Openherd.com. There is an affordable one-time cost for desiging and setting up this hosted website solution, which varies depending on the size of the job and the number of pages that need to be migrated from an existing website. If members would like their online store to show up on Openherd.com and benefit from having an Openherd PlusTM website for their farm, then a paid membership is required.

How long does it take to get things up and running?

Typically it takes a few days to get things up and running. That's because Openherd strives for a highly integrated, custom-styled implementation for each association's website so that every member - and the association website as a whole - looks their best. Other solutions that claim to take only minutes to set up are not going to be very customized or well integrated.

How does this affect our current association website?

Openherd offers two options for the Affiliate Program. The first option simply adds the new search and farm profile features to the association's existing website, without it having to change (except for adding a few more navigation links).

The second option provides a completely new, custom-designed association website that is easily managed and edited through a special Affiliate account on Openherd.com. This option is ideal for associations that struggle to maintain their own websites, due to time and cost constraints or "in-house" skillsets that come and go with Board rotation.
