Alpacas and ribbons
With New Moon Alpacas moving from California to Western Washington and getting settled, we have not attended an alpaca show since the California Classic of 2009. So, we attended Alpaca Affaire Northwest, arriving with our alpacas Friday, September 9th.
We brought two Suri females and two Huacaya males to the show, including:
* Sonnet of NMA (Suri female) * Dancer's Fire and Ice of New Moon (Suri female) * Dagda of New Moon (Huacaya male) * Remington's Gold Standard of NMA (Huacaya male)
The four alpacas earned two blue and two red ribbons at the show.
Doing something a bit different for this show, our alpacas were shown by two young friends Clare and Linda, aged 11 and 8.

Comanche's Longfella
Two male alpacas were on display at the Grays Harbor County Fair (Aug. 10-14) as ambassadors from the ranch. Comanche's Longfella (a Huacaya) and Nick Danger by Peruvian Nomar (a Suri) greeted fair goers as they came by the stall. Our show banner was up and business cards were available throughout the five days.
After the newspaper article in late June following our shearing, the fair board asked if we would bring a couple of alpacas for display. The board has asked for a return next year, even after Longfella kept sticking his head through the hog panels, hoping passers by (especially the children) had pecans for him.
Longfella and Nick Danger were tired and happy to be home but had made several new friends in the fair. They particularly enjoyed the visiting 4 foot long mature iguana who escaped his own cage and came to rest on Nicky's back, using him as a "hot rock" until he could be gathered up and returned to his own quarters. Longfella commented that it is nice to meet animals from around the world, and he had not had a chance to meet an iguana before. He hopes to see his new friend next year at the fair. The iguana had no comment---and Nicky just said that he would host the iguana next year if it wants to come over.
