Highland Alpaca has established itself as a source of quality alpacas for both new and current breeders. While maintaining hands-on management for people-friendly alpacas, they have grown to include top herdsires from across the country. Accoyo and Peruvian genetics include the best known names in the industry. Our 2012 Highland Progeny Promise offers you the opportunity to breed to a Champion male and then only pay the balance of the breeding fee when you are satisfied with the quality of the progeny. Highland Alpaca is a medium sized farm located in rural western Pennsylvania. We share the area with several small colleges and an Amish community. The farm began in 1998 with three pregnant females and three weanlings.
From that modest beginning, we have won many National awards, including the AOBA 2000 First Place Brown Male and Color Reserve Champion for black females, AOBA 2002 First Place Light Brown Juvenile Female, AOBA 2006 First Place Light Brown Yearling Male, the 2009 Composite Reserve Color Champion in Fawn and blue ribbons in AOBA fleece competitions.
We have made several purchases of males and have bred our foundation females to top males to become the "full service" breeder in Western Pennsylvania. This all means great genetic diversity and an unbeatable return-breeding program for purchased females. Check out our website for further details. For 2012 we formed the Highland Progeny Promise. This allows you to breed to one of our outstanding herdsires with only a $500 deposit. When the cria is born, you will pay the balance of the breeding fee (under $2000) when you decide to register the progeny. You control your breeding dollars with the final decision on the quality of the progeny. Only pay the full breeding fee when you feel you have received your money's worth!
We are both retired from our teaching positions and spend full time on the farm. All this allows us to provide hands on care for our alpacas and the females that arrive for breeding. We love giving our alpacas individual attention and enjoy the unique personalities that develop from our daily interactions. Our cria and bred females represent a variety of champion bloodlines for breeders getting started or looking to improve their herd. With the selection of quality breeding stock, we believe that small breeders have a place in this growing industry.
A new adventure for us, and one that reflects the growth of the alpaca industry, is the formation of our new company, American Alpaca Textiles. The company was formed by four Western PA alpaca farms with the vision to use american alpaca fiber, produce yarn yarn in the US, and have it woven into fabric for home interiors and upholstery. Check out more details on the company at www.AmericanAlpacaTextiles.com.
From proven top quality animals, we offer sales, breedings, financing, and after-purchase support. All our sales to new breeders include free tuition to a neonatal clinic, a new breeder start-up kit, and of course, the assurance that there will always be someone to call upon when questions come up.
