Prairie Lake Alpacas

Rick & Kathy Stumpf
13711 John Cline Rd.Smithsburg, MD 21783

Breeding award winning, elegant suri alpacas since 1999, Prairie Lake Alpacas is a small farm specializing in whites - the staple of a commercial fiber industry. As the alpaca industry matures, exceptional white alpacas will be in demand for their high luster, fine fleece which can easily be dyed an array of beautiful colors.

We provide some of the best known bloodlines in this country as we carefully match fiber characteristics to produce healthy, vigorous crias without regard to country of origin. With each new generation, we strive to create density, uniformity, exceptional regrowth, luster and fineness that lasts well into adulthood. Every breeder should be looking toward the future of the alpaca industry when purchasing breeding stock and should include a few nice whites when making their purchase decisions!

Although white is our specialty, we try to keep 2 or 3 colorful females just to add a little pizzazz! We also have 3 incredible colored males to provide clients with a variety of breeding choices including white, rose gray, and a crazy colored modern gray!

We enjoy meeting both new and experienced breeders, so feel free to call us or schedule a visit to discuss all things alpaca! We offer individual sales of breeding stock and herdsire services with package discounts for multiple puchases. Great customer support with honesty and integrity included at no extra charge!

We have been involved in the fiber processing aspect of the industry since we got started in the business and we are happy to share the knowledge we have amassed over the years! We are happy to help you with fiber questions you may have - whether how to read histograms, understanding biopsies or just helping you to decide the best use for your fiber!

Farm Terms & Financing

We are happy to discuss financing to meet your individual needs!

After 18 years as active members of the alpaca breeding and showing industry, Prairie Lake Alpacas has decided it is time to change direction. All animals have been sold, but we will still be active in the industry! Rick will continue to be the "Voice" at many East Coast shows as he enjoys his announcing duties too much to give that up! Kathy will still be involved with fiber products - dying yarn, weaving and knitting.
We have truly enjoyed the alpaca industry and love the friends we've made along the way!
