He was such a handsome boy!
It is with great sadness that I post this blog, but I feel I have to write it.
Sunday night, I went and prepared a milk replacer that we had been giving to Ryker Shay by mouth. We had been pumping everything we could think of into him; alfalfa (pellets too), Calf Manna, 2 vitamin pastes, and our pellets that everyone gets. He was also being coated to keep him warm, yet he wasn't gaining anything.
Anyways, on Sunday night I went into the barn and I didn't see him up by the fence like usual. I immediately knew that something was wrong. I went into his pen and found him laying on his side in the bedding. Cold and stiff; lifeless...
For insurance purposes, we had our vets do an autopsy. They found nothing. Ryker had no parasites and had food in his stomach so he was eating up until death. The only thing that the vet found was that his 'male parts' were unusually small. The vet said despite all that we were doing it wouldnt have helped Ryker, he "failed to thrive".
We figure that Ryker might have possibly had a underlying genetic issue it could be for the best that this all happened before we bred him the genetic issue could have been passed on
We will miss Ryker dearly...
