The last Legacy Gold daughter *ever*!

Happy Hearts Gemma D'Oro

Huacaya, Female, Proven | Medium Fawn

AOA# 32219081   D.O.B. 7/20/2012

Sire:
Snowmass Legacy Gold
| AOA# 807333  | Medium Fawn  |
The absolute legend. The CCNF Arena is actually known off-hand as, "the house that LG built!" His sons Archangel and Golden Sovereign, and his daughters Magdalena and Nutmeg of Consolation and their many descendants really need no introduction. Heard of Elixir and Centurion before? Neither would exist without their great grand sire, Legacy Gold...

Dam:
CCNF Saline
| AOA# 1313284  | White  |
The daughter of SuperNova and imported Goddess, PPPeruvian Prestige.
Service Sire:
Spirit Wind's Maestro
| AOA# 32094497  | Medium Fawn
We first became aware of Maestro’s sire, Xanadu P. Concerto, a little over 2 years ago while speaking to Jerry and Karin Young at the Empire Extravaganza. The Youngs are the owners of Spirit Wind Farm & Fiber Studio in New York and they had actually purchased Concerto from Xanadu Alpacas in Colorado, a year or two before we purchased his full sister, Cadenza. If you’ve followed the comings and goings of our breeding program over the past 4 years or so, you know that we -- with very good reason -- pretty much worship the ground that sweet Cadenza walks on. Without sounding too obnoxious: given our time and experience in this business, it’s just not that often that we can add a female to the mix from the outside that is also instantly near the top of our herd’s depth chart. Yeah, she’s that great. Anyway, needless to say it got our attention that the Young’s had her full brother in the mix at their place and it led to us kind of keeping tabs on their herd and watching what Concerto (not to be confused with CCNF Concerto, Cadenza’s SuperNova son who is likewise a Herdsire of ours) was making for them.

Fast forward to the 2013 Empire Extravaganza last fall and I (Ian) was walking into the show ring to see and put my hands on the Light Male Champion and Reserve Champion, the purple banner being held that day by none other than Jerry Young! My first thought on putting my hands into Maestro’s fleece, was “WOW, that’s soft!” I know you’d think we experience that all of the time but the handle on this young male was nonetheless exceptional. When we found out shortly thereafter that Maestro was also one of their Concerto sons, it quickly got our wheels turning. Long story short, by the end of that day we had agreed to buy the Young’s superlative young Herdsire from them. One could argue, I suppose, that we were hedging our bets on Cadenza’s line by adding her nephew to the mix. Or maybe just being greedy? In our minds you can never have too much of the really great lines,

Description

How would you like to own the last female ever sired by the legendary Snowmass Legacy Gold? Gemma is really like a CCNF alpaca that just happened to be born elsewhere. When our dear friend, Sue Monat, made the tough decision to sell her small alpaca herd after the passing of her husband, Alan, in 2014, we stepped in and bought both Gemma and her dam, Saline, whom the Monats had originally purchased from us years ago at the National Elite sale. One of our young females, Moonlight, had competed in the show ring with Gemma, so on top of being familiar with the genetics (Saline is a SuperNova daughter out of our old über foundation female, PPPeruvian Prestige), we had no doubts whatsoever about her qualities.

Quite frankly, the only reason we have Gemma listed here at all is because, well...we have to list someone. Were she to stay here at CCNF, that would not be a bad thing at all. Do we need another top-shelf LG daughter in our foundation herd? Not really: between Archangel, Goldden Sovereign, and their sister Magdalena we've kind of had that angle covered for a while, but on the other hand, high end production females are kind of like great pitchers on a baseball team - there is no such thing as too much depth!

Gemma gave birth in October 2015 to a gorgeous fawn Snowmass Matrix Majesty girl, CCNF Sienna. Gemma and baby will offered together until such time as Sienna is weaned in the late winter/early spring of 2016. At that time we will then offer mom by herself. Gemma has been bred back to our 2014 Futurity Champion, Spirit Wind's Maestro for an early September 2016 cria. That cria will be among Maestro's first kids on the ground. All told, this is a nifty little package: a proven, ribbon-winning dam from two of our most potent paternal and maternal lines, with a top quality female cria at side (whose sire is a 2-time Futurity Herdsire of the Year), bred to yet another Futurity Champion.

***April 2016 Update: Gemma's daughter, CCNF Sienna, made the cut onto our spring show string and won 1st and 2nd place ribbons at the 2016 NAAS and 2016 Northeast Alpaca Expo respectively!
