Defiance has won numerous awards and championships, including the 2013 and 2014 IAO Supreme Champion male. But his accolades don't begin to tell the story of this truly exceptional male.

Defiance's dam's lineage has been proven over multiple generations to produce superior alpacas. Snowmass Maree Love, Snowmass Delightful Duet and Snowmass Freedom are all of this line.

His paternal lineage has contributed advanced heritable characteristics, like those expressed in his sire, Snowmass Elite Legend, who remains the North American leader in the number of years he has been the Herdsire of the Year. Elite Legend's sire, Snowmass Quechua, was Herdsire of the Year before him, and now Defiance embodies the next level of advancement in this ever-exceptional paternal line.

All of the traits we breed for come together in this male. New standards of sustained fineness, consistency, brightness and density define a consistently superior fleece that hardly changes at all from one year to the next. His exquisite fleece is supported by an overall perfect phenotype. His merino-style fleece is maintaining impeccable fineness, uniformity, and high curvature as he enters middle age, and he carries it on a strong frame with impressive substance of bone.

Defiance’s genetics combine the lasting fineness found in the Hemingway and Legacy lines with the low medullation for which the Elite line is particularly well known. These advanced heritable characteristics are expressed in Defiance’s superior fleece that hardly changes from one year to the next. At seven years of age, Defiance’s 2016 histogram was: AFD 18.7; SD 3.1; CV 16.5; %>30 0.3 and MC 69.4. Defiance is in the top 1% of EPDs for five traits: AFD, SDAFD, SF, %>30 and MC.
