Maestro/Legacy Gold cross!

CCNF Privateer

Huacaya, Herdsire (Male), Unproven | Medium Fawn

AOA# 35370215   D.O.B. 9/1/2016 (9 yrs)

Sire:
Spirit Wind's Maestro
| AOA# 32094497  | Medium Fawn
We first became aware of Maestro’s sire, Xanadu P. Concerto, a little over 2 years ago while speaking to Jerry and Karin Young at the Empire Extravaganza. The Youngs are the owners of Spirit Wind Farm & Fiber Studio in New York and they had actually purchased Concerto from Xanadu Alpacas in Colorado, a year or two before we purchased his full sister, Cadenza. If you’ve followed the comings and goings of our breeding program over the past 4 years or so, you know that we -- with very good reason -- pretty much worship the ground that sweet Cadenza walks on. Without sounding too obnoxious: given our time and experience in this business, it’s just not that often that we can add a female to the mix from the outside that is also instantly near the top of our herd’s depth chart. Yeah, she’s that great. Anyway, needless to say it got our attention that the Young’s had her full brother in the mix at their place and it led to us kind of keeping tabs on their herd and watching what Concerto (not to be confused with CCNF Concerto, Cadenza’s SuperNova son who is likewise a Herdsire of ours) was making for them.

Fast forward to the 2013 Empire Extravaganza last fall and I (Ian) was walking into the show ring to see and put my hands on the Light Male Champion and Reserve Champion, the purple banner being held that day by none other than Jerry Young! My first thought on putting my hands into Maestro’s fleece, was “WOW, that’s soft!” I know you’d think we experience that all of the time but the handle on this young male was nonetheless exceptional. When we found out shortly thereafter that Maestro was also one of their Concerto sons, it quickly got our wheels turning. Long story short, by the end of that day we had agreed to buy the Young’s superlative young Herdsire from them. One could argue, I suppose, that we were hedging our bets on Cadenza’s line by adding her nephew to the mix. Or maybe just being greedy? In our minds you can never have too much of the really great lines, particularly if you have some idea of how best to breed them. Either way, it gives us another exciting option to use in our colored herd and combined with his 1st cousin, CCNF Defiance, also coming on line for us, it means that Cadenza’s/Concerto’s line is poised to make a significant impact here in the coming years ahead. Turning 2 this coming July, we anticipate being able to use Maestro in our program certainly by the end of the breeding season if not before. Once we have a confirmed pregnancy from Maestro, we will also open him up for limited outside stud service. You can watch this space as well as CCNFChronicles.com (the farm’s blog) for news and updates.

Description

Can we just say up front that has to be one of the worst show photos ever? The young fella is nobody's fool but we love him nonetheless! Privateer was one of the first crias born here ever sired by Spirit Wind’s Maestro, our fawn 2014 Futurity Champion Herdsire and his arrival did nothing to dampen our enthusiasm for his dad. Of course Privateer’s depth of quality comes in equal measure from his dam, CCNF Nutmeg of Consolation, the most decorated alpaca in our program’s history (halter and fleece), she being a daughter of SHRA Virtual’s Reality and the mighty Snowmass Legacy Gold himself, both of them original CCNF foundational animals whose lines still play key roles throughout our herd. As one would assume – correctly – the result is a typey little male with a dense, fine, and uniform fleece that glistens with brightness.

Tragically, we lost Maestro in May of 2018 leaving Privateer as his only working son. In the absence of his sire and with the second crop of Elixir/Majesty cross females reaching sexual maturity last year, Privateer got to show us what he could do in the summer of 2020. Those crias will likely make their show debuts in 2021. Meanwhile we are pleased to now offer Privateer for outside stud service at an introductory rate of $2,500.
