Indy was another "meant to be" male. When he stepped off the trailer, there was no question this male was an ideal for our farm -- and I do mean ideal. He is ultra-compact -- the precise size that we are breeding for. His head is the BEST I have seen on any grey alpaca, ever, in the world -- a gift, again, from his incredible dam line. His coverage is excellent, and his fleece is ultra, ultra bright, with an incredible handle.

He is also one of the sweetest, gentlest males I have ever encountered -- yet still quite confident with other males -- a temperament that is, again, wholly ideal.

It isn't much of a surprise that this male is such a knockout, because he is one of the only grey descendents of one of the most prepotent dam lines in all of the alpaca kingdom: El Nino's Precious Gem-Stone. A daughter of impact herdsire El Nino, multiple champion and Judge's Choice winner Gem-Stone is the dam of one of my all-time favorite alpaca herdsires, Dupioni's Vintage Troubadour. I like Troubadour so much that I own two sons and three of his daughters -- all of which are absolutely cut from the same mold. His son, Riddler, is our best-producing male so far, with the same incredible prepotency as his father: dramatically improving the primitive girls, and stamping absolute excellence with a top-producing dam.

The fact that Indy's multiple-champion dam, Jubilee, is half-sister to Troubadour was the primary reason that I wanted to bring this male onto our farm. His sire is a pretty darned cool contributor as well, however. For one thing, Socosani's Silverton is a total outcross to the most popular Tuxedo Grey alpaca bloodlines of today. His sire, 5P Socosani, was a top-producing grey whose offspring were not shown very often. His track record for color was excellent, however, with the vast majority of his 78 registered offspring being grey or black. Socosani has also produced a couple of Harlequins. Whether he was the source of the Harlequin gene remains to be seen, but it seems quite possible -- and his grandson Indy does exhibit the clear blanket and black mustache that is often a "tell" for a Tuxedo / Harlequin carrier.

So, here's Indy. It's clear that he is awesome to behold, and his pedigree suggests that he should be a powerful producer. The icing on this cake, though, is his biospy. At 74 follicles/sq mm, Indy ranks as one of the densest silver greys yet tested. His S:P of 12.6:1 is excellent, and his AFD ranks him among the top 10% of all alpacas Ian has biopsied. The spread between his primaries and secondaries is higher than I would like -- but no male is PERFECT, and the AFD on those primaries is pretty low. He is still quite excellent -- ESPECIALLY for a silver.

Perfect temperament, perfect frame, perfect head -- super dense, and oh so soft. So close to truly ideal.

Oh yeah ... He bred on his first try, too. Watch for his cria to make a serious impact.
