We knew that Arturo was going to be extraordinary as soon as his fleece was dry. His namesake, Ken's father (Arthur), would have been 100 years old the day Arturo was born.

We also knew that dad, our own Snowmass RRoyal Stars was a "dilution" white, with fleece density in the top 1% of alpacas biopsied by Ian Watt, as was his mom RR Rose Encantada and waited with confident expectations until the results came in.

Billie is a gem out of one of our very best production females. She has consistently produced gorgeous roan offspring, including her most recent RR Sebastian (2021)

Not surprisingly, her first offspring, RR Houdini, sired by our own RR Arturo (medium brown), is a solid grey with the fiber characteristics that made Arturo a repeated champion in both halter and fleece.
Even better is that the repeat breeding produced RR Modigliani, making 2 for 2 breedings to Arturo resulting in roan.

Description

Billie Holliday is a strawberry roan daughter of Legato Grigio (blue roan).

We should not be surprised that like Modigliani's older full brother Houdini that Modiglianii, he is a bay roan.

*( i.e. Since we know that Arturo doesn't carry a black allele from extensive breeding outcomes, all that he can contribute is one of his 2 AbAb brown alleles. The resulting cria can therefore only carry one black controlling allele which could come from the dam. In this way he would be a carrier of a black (or silver) base coat to produce the heterozygous Ee bay base color).

Through pedigree analysis of the A (brown/fawn) and E (black) color evaluation through 5 generations, we believe thatthere is a 50% chance that Modigliani carries black.
In this particular case, Billie Holliday's much lighter (more diluted) coat color has been rendered as a fully pigment rich bay. We suspect that he doesn't carry any dilution gene's and would be an excellent candidate to breed to lighter colored roans.


Bored by the genetics? Well then check out his fleece. He is carrying a ton of fiber with brightness, well organized staple, very nice length and spreads it uniformly over an expansive blanket. He has wonderful density.

He is more than worthy to stand on stud row to breed back into the roans in our program. Our design has been to find a roan successor to Arturo and Touchstone who are both brown. Modigliani will carry on the Arturo line and Sherlock Holmes carry Touchstone's.

Financing Terms

Buyer pays for CVI, transport and ARI transfer. For auctions, financing terms must be agreed upon prior to end of auction otherwise payment in full is due at auction end.
