RR ARTURO - makes grey...

Huacaya, Male, Proven, Medium Brown, Medium Rose Grey
ARI# 31620420 | DOB: 4/27/2011
We knew that Arturo was going to be extraordinary as soon as his fleece was dry. His namesake, Ken's father (Arthur), would have been 100 years old the day Arturo was born.

We also knew that dad, our own Snowmass RRoyal Stars was a "dilution" white, with fleece density in the top 1% of alpacas biopsied by Ian Watt, as was his mom RR Rose Encantada and waited with confident expectations until the results came in.

RR LENA HORNE

Huacaya, Female, Proven, Medium Rose Grey
ARI# 35117582 | DOB: 10/8/2014
Lena Horne is a sturdy foundation female. Her first pregnancy was a twin dystocia with an outstanding surviving black son, Harry Potter. She has the density that we have come to expect from these lines.
We can't wait to see her next cria by RR Arturo.

As done through Ian Watt at Alpaca Consulting USA, Lena is one of our densest roans:

Density: 71.4 /mm

Secondary:Primary fiber ratio: 12.4:1

In-skin mean primary fiber diameter: 27.0 µ Standard Deviation: 4.0 µ Range: ...

Description

Elsa is exactly what we would have expected in the rapidly increase dominant roan offspring in our third generation.

Among other selected phenotypic traits, she is the beneficiary of 5 generations of selection by both histogram and follicle testing.
Her parents are 2 of the best that we have tested over the 15 years that we have been using skin biopsies with not only superior density, but also uniformity (Primary minus Secondary micron and associated standard deviations) but also very superior S/P ratios which is obvious in "the hand".

There is sustained fineness on both sides.

She also has a high likelihood of carrying a black allele so bred to black or a blue roan, she might produce a black cria or blue roan cria .

If one looks at the pedigree, it reflects the best that we have selected for in our herd including birthing and vigor.

She will be en excellent foundation female and we now have enough that we can offer her for sale. She is one of at least 12 (as of September 2019) third generation roans added to predecessors spanning 4 generations, whose genomics are being studied by Kylie Munyard PhD to find the roan marker already available to horse breeders.

It's no longer a "crapshoot"...it's becoming on of "probabilities" if you have the genomics and are able to "paint by numbers.
