Oh, my oh my! Apache is a proven herdsire with 26 cria on the ground! Sometimes words just aren't enough. If you are looking for an appaloosa harlequin stud to cover your girls and create something truly unique, look no further. This boy has it all!

Apache's pedigree is packed (on both sides) with outstanding appaloosas and harlequins. It is highly probable that Apache is homozygous meaning you do not have to breed him to another harlequin or appaloosa to get a good chance of producing an appaloosa harlequin offspring. A definite plus for those breeding for spots.

With 26 offspring now sired by Apache, we have a pretty good picture of his expressivity. Of the 26 offspring on the ground (August 2021), 24 of the dams were of non-appaloosa / harlequin lineage and 22 of those offspring were either appaloosa or harlequin. So 92% of the time, Apache has thrown appaloosa or harlequin without any genetic influence from the dam. Ironically, one of the two times when bred to appaloosa or a gene carrier, Apache threw a solid. Overall, he has only thrown two solids out of 26 cria! He is as sure of a bet as you can get when looking for these uniquely colored / patterned alpacas.

Apache's sire, Windspun WSA Patriotic Gentleman, is an appaloosa as well. He's a blue ribbon winning male that sports a beautiful fleece and strong confirmation. Patriotic Gentleman's sire is the multi-champion Hobby Horse Farm Great Expecations making his grandsire the well-known SA Peruvian Black Epic.

Apache's dam, Excelsior's High Voltage Tazer, has an equally impressive background. She's the harlequin daughter of two very well-known appaloosas - NWA/Hearsum Paulo and Cookies and Cream.

In May 2021, Apache's appaloosa offspring took 2nd Place - Get of Sire.

Description

Top Knot has matured into an impressive herdsire whose genetics continue to strengthen our breeding program.

He carries award-winning fleece noted for density, brightness, and uniformity, along with unique brown and black spotting and subtle grey shading on his nose. His sire is a respected harlequin herdsire, and his pedigree is further supported by his older half-sibling, Alpaca Rainbow Ranch’s Alchesay, well known for producing offspring with excellent fiber and strong conformation.

Top Knot’s quality was recognized with First Place in the Multiple Color Yearling Walking Fleece category at the 2023 AOA Nationals under Judge Arturo Peña. His histogram results confirm the strength and consistency of his fiber.

He has already produced offspring in a variety of colors, with one standout being his 2025 cria, Checkmate Gambit, a striking harlequin with exceptional fleece.
