AutumnSun's Umbreon

Huacaya, Open (Female), Unproven | White, Medium Silver Grey

AOA# 35427810   D.O.B. 9/12/2018

Sire:
GRAND RIVER MARQUIS
| AOA# 31983341  | classic MSG

Dam:
AutumnSun's Water Sprite
| AOA# 32653090  | True Black  |
This girl was born in the middle of a storm, found sitting in a puddle with the shelter roof runoff pouring over her head. She had such long fleece and she was so wet that we could not tell if she was a suri or a huacaya until we figured out who her dam was! While being dried, after she had warmed up, she started kicking and fight our efforts -- a really good showing of her fighting spirit. She continues to be an assertive girl. So, her name is a reflection of her notable start and impish nature. She comes up for her greeting when we are the paddock but sometimes when she is feeling impish, she frowns and starts to bluster like to spit - but then she 'peels off' to trot away when she catches your eye (you can almost hear the faerie laughter). These girls and their personalities!

When bred to Grand River Marquis, she produced a lovely, buttery soft classic medium silver grey girl that we have kept in our grey breeding program. The boys named her Umbreon for her lavender fleece.

The next breeding she produced a rock solid (can a cria be 'rooted to the ground'?) black male by Dauntless that is packing on lots of impressive fiber. The look of this boy! He is developing into a sturdy modern grey male, which we named Minotaur for his impressive "tree trunk" legs evident at birth.

When bred to Stradivarius she gave us a well developed true black girl we named Night Rain that has a nice crimp style, good staple and good coverage. We look forward to breeding her to one of our other black herdsires -- Maelstrom, Guinness or Secret.

Sprite was then bred to our other top shelf black male, Maelstrom, and produced a lovely true black girl, Siren Call. We have high hopes for at least breeding if not showing this one.

This year she has been bred for grey again with a pairing to one of our Quixotic sons, Trouble, who showed he could not just throw greys but ones with good coverage, and bright, crimpy fiber when he made our Rabble Rouser out of Totality. Fingers cross for this in a girl model from Sprite!

Description

Umbreon was 'lost' in the corner at our farm and we didn't attempt to breed her until 2023. She was a bit nervous about the process and she didn't take. We didn't press the issue, working with her to see if she needed help starting to cycle since we had left her open so long or if there were any medical reasons. For that reason we have her in our herd reduction sale priced as a fiber animal but we will allow the transfer of her certificate as breeder.

This is a terrible picture (apologies) but you can see she is a classic medium silver grey coloration. She has the more upright lithe body style -- 'stretchy' but balanced in frame -- rather than the barrel chested look that is en vogue in show system. In full disclosure, especially since this picture doesn't show her legs, she could use more face and lower leg coverage to be show competitive. Her fiber is very fine and uniform in ratio between primary and secondary fibers, consistent in her small amplitude high frequency crimp across staple and blanket, pretty uniform in her coloration with only those black marks on her topline that you see in the picture (no brown). If you handspin, you would love the feel of this fleece! She has a sweet personality and is curious of her surroundings though she is not a 'pet me' girl. She will come up to say hi but would rather you didn't try to pet her. She is an easy keeper with no medical issues.

I am surprised that she has not sold (maybe it is my terrible picture) but if she sticks around until next breeding season this year and I breed her, her price will go up significantly. She is only available at this price because I didn't want to go through the herdsire exposures that will be needed to get her thinking breeding thoughts last season. I can tell you her mood has already shifted since last season, so it could be as easy as a couple breedings.

She is very fine, with amazing uniformity, which is why we kept her even when we didn't have our act together for breeding and despite the afore mentioned shorter staple. I could see her paired to Ultra or Artorius -- both heavy boned and long stapled -- and producing a great cria on our farm and I know she could do the same with your herdsire. As I continue looking at her and writing her up, I start talking myself out of selling her, so if you are interested (what risk? at this price?) ask now.
