    Peruvian huacaya has retired from the halter show circuit to pursue his career as a herdsire. Yet he does so with an absolutely remarkable record. In shows spanning geography from the West Coast and the Rocky Mountains, to his home in the southwest, he has earned thirteen blue ribbons and five championships; four Color and one Reserve. His championships have been in full fleece halter, composite, and fleece. He has a remarkably gentle temperament, yet exhibited a very proud and confident presence in the show ring. Stonewall has fantastic conformation and his fleece has it all, amplitude and frequency of crimp, density, softness, luster, and consistency of color. And he possesses a black gene from his sire. This is excellence!

    At 4 years old, Dawn's fleece still sorts as a Grade #2! This is more important that any ribbon she could ever win. Born from 2 solid black as night parents, she is like the dawn. Taking from them their Peruvian heritage, but more importantly their awesome fleece genetics. Her fine handling dark fawn full fleece coverage hides her solid black toe nails. It has a brilliant shine and the density is really special. Her deep black eyes and eye liner are only a hint to her dark color genetics.

    Her dam 5Peruvian Condori was one of Snowmass' top selections in the '97 Peruvian import. Snowmass Alpacas describes her as being AS SUPERIOR AS NOVA HIMSELF. What a compliment! She has consistently produced alpacas that can compete and win at top level competitions under top level judges. For a True Black to be able to produce a wide range of colors that can compete at the top level no matter the color is exceptional.

    Her sire, Snowmass Midnight Magic is considered by Snowmass as a very Elite fleeced black male. "He is the male who’s fleece will create fine fashion garments that are as soft as the finest cashmere. This comes from his sire Snowmass Matadors Magic who is a true asset to vicuna fineness in a well advanced alpaca and his Dam 5Peruvian Ajoyani purchased for her own ultra fine black fleece. There is not an alpaca in Midnight Magic’s pedigree that is not on our Elite fleece list. He has produced the most consistent set of black cria we have ever experienced. Luster beyond our dreams with excellent staple length and very even high frequency well defined crimp that just does not stop. In his first and only showing he took a first place and was in the first place line with Snowmass Nova and took Reserve Champion. He has been home breeding ever since."

    Dawn is one of our very best foundation girls. Porteus will not only enhance her already stunning fleece, but add his large bone structure and beautiful head style.

    Description

    Somewhere in there is a black Alpaca...but we aren't sure where! Medina is from the highly prized "Condori" line. Her Grandam, 5Peruvian Condori, is from Snowmass Alpacas who they recommended as one of their most important black females "equal to Nova in her production value." 5Peruvain is a True Black Full Peruvian import and she was bred to another top quality full Peruvian True Black, Snowmass Midnight Magic.
    Medina's Dam, however, did not turn out to be a True Black, but is a super awesome full Peruvian Dark Fawn...Snowmass Midnight's Dawn. Dawn's maiden breeding was to Dundee's Stonewall Jaxon. Stonewall is owned by Chuck and Leigh Thomas and is the multi-award winning son of one of the most consistent blacks around, Axtion Jaxon. Stonewall had the consistency, fleece, and bone structure that was desired, plus that black background that was thought might trigger Dawn's black heritage.

    Amazingly, their offspring is our Medina, a light fawn girl and we have NO complaints! She's a beautiful, compact-bodied Alpaca that is extremely fine, has tons of staple length, and has a beautiful consistency that we wanted in our herd. After ribboning at A-OK Alpaca Blast Off in 2009, she was shorn and the Certified Fiber Sorter scored her as a #1 which is Royal Baby fine! She had 2 words in her comment section "Ooooooo - Ahhhhhh."

    She has developed nicely into a striking beauty. She was been bred to Tierra's Creed at Tierra Prometida Alpaca Ranch in January, 2012. Creed is a handsome Medium Fawn who possesses a black gene as his dam is a true black. Creed's sire is the champion Alpaca PNA Poseidon's Isaac. Creed has an amazing dense fleece that is full of character—a low amplitude, high frequency crimp style, with brightness, bundling, and fineness.
    UPDATE: We didn't get a black cria, but on 12/30/2013, Medina gave us a beautiful little female cria—Creed's Joyous Noëlle. She's a beautiful Medium Fawn color. Medina has been rebred to Snowmass Matrix Madness!

    UPDATE: You can purchase yarn made from Medina's fleece.
