Lazy Days of Summer

Lazy Days of Summer Who said summer was a time for laziness? Remember that old song, “Here comes those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer”? You’ll never catch me whistling this tune or singing those lyrics at the ranch! Summer is a time for herd health, cria watch, cria deliveries, rebreeding, fleece skirting and fiber preparation! Who has time to be lazy? Not us….let me tell you. Keeping the herd cool with water is one of my favorite things to do after work – and I don’t consider that work but more like play. Thankfully, in our mild climate here in Washington, we don’t have to worry about that much. Today our high is going to be 95, which is fairly rare. Summer is a great time to reflect on the direction of our breeding program, show off our animals at local events and hang out with alpaca people. A good bbq finishes the day off nicely too as seen in the photo of a big rack of bbq ribs. And maybe a very cool, tall beverage to go with.
