Fiber Pick Ups -VS-Shipping Costs

One of the higher costs in processing your fiber is shipping costs. Shipping raw fiber to a mill can cost anywhere from $1 to $3 per lb, depending on how far from the mill you are and how well you can pack and tape your boxes. The problem being, you can only compress raw fiber so much and shipping companies charge more by size of container and less by weight ( sometimes a 12x12x12 box will cot the same if you have 10lbs. in it or 15lbs. in it). So if you're shipping, jam as much as possible, removing all the air, then jam more in. Once the box is crammed full, tape, tape, tape. Tape is cheaper than shipping, and some extra tape along with some extra cramming can take your package count down from three boxes to two, or even one if you are good. That said watch our email blasts, face book, and our open herd pages for events we are attending. We always bring our trailer and will be willing to find you at the event to collect. Thus removing incoming shipping costs all together. Those will weights over two hundred lbs, check out our forms and contact us we may be willing to come strait to your farm. This spring and summer we will be traveling to the following shows or states for pick-ups: Mapaca, York (PAOBA), State of Maine, New Hampshire, Mass, Ohio, and Kentucky.
