Let’s face it: ribbons alone don’t carry much meaning beyond the immediate thrill of winning. The real value comes afterward… After every show comes a moment of quiet reflection, a dive into the goods, the bads, and everything in between. These are the reassessments that allow us to keep growing as breeders and keep pushing our program forward.
In April 2026, we attended two spring shows hosted by Alpaca Ontario and Alpaga Québec. After a year-long hiatus from the show ring in 2025 (a much-needed break, though two of our juvies were simply too good to leave behind), we returned with the largest show team in our program’s history: 9 alpacas at each event.
A new challenge was set for the Alpaca Ontario show: hauling the trailer without René! This is my circus and these are my monkeys, after all. However, besides some very short-distance runs, my experience with the trailer was limited (e.g., I had never *successfully* backed up the trailer - worry not, I practiced plenty before departure to remedy that). To cut it short: we lived to tell the tale! The six-hour drive hauling our 27-foot trailer went like a breeze.
As for the Québec show, for the second year, Anne-Marie was in charge of showing our alpacas. This time around, the size of the crew under her command was vastly superior. Per usual, we had our booth showcasing our products - an area where René stays plenty busy - while I worked as the judge’s interpreter and ring steward. As a newly retired farm guide, Anne-Marie might have just found her new calling as our professional handler!

We are still blown away by these results! It certainly felt like a full-circle moment to see Andean Treasure and A Kind of Magic, the offspring of our powerful sister duo, Andean Shadow and Andean Sunrise, perform so incredibly. Shadow and Sunrise are the alpacas that first put our program on the map, making it extra special to see their crias carrying on the family legacy.
Continuing the family tradition, we are seeing the next generation from our lineage of Averegan’s Magnus unfold. While our success showing his direct offspring was a highlight of years past, we are now seeing his influence reach even further through the next generations. Not only are his grandbabies performing extremely well, but his very first great-granddaughter, Miss Althea du DNA, joined the fray by winning Reserve Champion Light in her debut appearance at the Québec show. It is incredibly rewarding to see his genetics continue to push our program to new levels nearly a decade after he first joined us, and we look forward to seeing his continued impact for his new owners.
Perhaps the true highlight of the 2026 shows was seeing our genetics shine for our clients. It fills us with pride to see that the quality of alpacas we are now willing to part with is at such a competitive level. Most importantly, it shows that fellow breeders are just as passionate about bettering the breed; with keen eyes, they are pairing these animals with careful and dedicated breeding decisions that allow the next generation to excel. It is one thing to produce a quality animal, but seeing how our clients utilize those genetics to reach new heights is the ultimate reward!
