Explore SoCal in a unique & extraordinary way!

Black Mountain Pack Llamas aims to provide you with a memorable, safe, stress-free, self-guided llama packing adventure that’s filled with the best the Southern California backcountry has to offer!

We offer full service or personalized rental options. Llama rental prices include all necessary equipment and supplies for the llamas:

Food • Saddle • Two Panniers • Scale • Blanket • Halter • Lead Rope • Stakeout Lead • Collapsible Water Bucket • Etc.

Each pannier is big enough to hold gear that’s the equivalent of two 5-gallon buckets. Bulky items like sleeping bags, sleeping pads, etc., may be tied to the top of the saddle.

Meet our Rental Llamas

We reserve our most friendly, experienced, and skilled trail companions for rentals. Most of our packers are males. Our female llamas are primarily for breeding, however some are also cross trained to pack. Our llamas have had years of exposure to new people, environments, weather, and scenarios. Click here to meet our rental llamas!

Simple 6-Step Process:

Step 1- Request a reservation via the form here.

Step 2- We’ll respond to confirm dates, answer your questions, and assist with the rental logistics.

Step 3 - Once you commit to a rental date, you’ll receive a proposed invoice, information packet and waiver forms via email.

Step 4- If you’re a first-time renter, once your reservation is completed, you'll need to complete our Llama Orientation Clinic so you’ll understand the basics of pack llamas.. This can be scheduled months, weeks, or days in advance.

Step 5- Complete a two-hour hands-on training with our llama breeding and training expert. Then, participate in either a half day or overnight llama packing trip for next-level, real-world training with our expert guide. Put your new knowledge to the test before you embark on your solo rental!

Step 6- Pick up your rented llamas. You’re off on your adventure!

Transport

All customers are required to safely transport the llamas with a trailer, van, or stock rack. If you are providing the transport trailer, we must pre-approve it prior to taking the llamas on the trip!

Trailer Rental: $75/day

Please make sure your tow vehicle is set up with a break controller, no blown fuses, and fits a 7 pin round trailer plug or bring your own adapter. All the trailers take a 2” ball hitch. Feel free to bring your own hitch as well.

We are usually willing to travel and meet you at a predetermined location if our schedules allow. We charge $1/mile to transport the llamas to the prearranged meeting place and return the town vehicle and trailer to the Rancho Trails address.
