Welcome to Sacred Acres Alpaca Farm

We have been host members of Harvest Hosts since October 2020 and have found the program to be a way for Harvest Hosts members to enjoy overnight stays at one-of-a-kind places like our alpaca farm. You can get more information about this distinctive program by checking https://harvesthosts.com .

We can accept self-contained RV trailers up to 20 feet and camper vans/Class C up to 25 feet. Larger RVs would not have enough turnaround space. You can expect the following once you’re here:

    • We recommend you plan to arrive at least 2 hours before sundown. It’s very dark at night, there are no streetlights, and the driveway is difficult to find after dark.
    • We accept only one RV per night and try to provide as much privacy as possible.
    • Parking sites are mostly level, but you may need to use levelers.
    • Two parking sites are available
    • Generators are acceptable.
    • We can provide water, if needed
    • We cannot provide electric hookup
    • WiFi is available if desired. Just ask for access code.
    • Farm chores are handled by two farm hands, but you may accompany owner during evening roundup if you wish.
    • The farm store will be open when it’s convenient for you. No set hours except Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. We carry a variety of alpaca clothing and accessories, and alpaca-themed items.
    • When skies are clear, you can do a lot of stargazing. You can see the Milky Way directly overhead. And sometimes it’s possible to see the International Space Station crossing our part of the sky (it takes 30-40 minutes traveling from North to South).

What visitors are saying about us:

    Mary Jo G, 9/27/24

Sweet and educational! We enjoyed our stay, because the sweet host is clearly devoted to the alpacaSAnd is eager to share stories, and to educate us.

    Michelle E, 9/14/24

Cute alpacas. We didn't realize there was a local art fair the day we arrive, and we already had plans for another event. Everyone on the farm was very friendly and helpful. Despite a long day for her, the owner, MaryJane, met up with us and discussed the alpacas and allowed us to provide an evening snack to the female alpacas. The next day, MaryJane showed us how to harness the alpacas with a few of the males. She provides an opportunity to walk an alpaca on her various trails. MaryJane was very gracious and knowledgeable on alpacas, knitting, and crocheting. we were able to purchase various clothing made from alpaca fur. Great for Christmas gifts. The location was quiet. The signage a bit small, but Maps is clear when to turn. The alpacas are behind the house. There is a gravel driveway straight ahead when you pull into the property and a sign, pointing for parking on the left, which is where you head over to park.  Very enjoyable experience for us.

    Prince D, 8/10/24

Excellent Stay. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. MaryJane could not have been more accommodating. She gave us a tour and we fed some of the animals. We would recommend staying here.

    Jim G, 6/28/24

Highly recommend. I had a fantastic time visiting, Sacred Acres Farm, and spending time with MaryJane. She introduced me to the alpacas, allowed me to feed them, explain the on-property, hiking trails, and opened her shop for me, even after her employees had left for the day. She is an amazing Harvest Hosts! I definitely will be returning.

    Scott J, May 2024

A great little get away...   THANK YOUfor such an awesome visit! We loved the alpacas and the laid-back environment. Having our camper on the great spot inside the farm, instead of near the road was really nice. The farm, hiking trails, and Woods were beautiful! It was such a cool bonus to see the deer and bunnies and adding Whippoorwill and barred owls among others to our list. honestly, when camping, we usually stay to ourselves, but this past weekend we absolutely loved hanging out and getting to know you! Walking along as we checked on, and said the boys and girls was a warm experience. It was wonderful getting to know each other as we watch the fireflies and stars; one of the three of us has a beautiful, singing voice (that's you :-) ). Good luck with all of your future endeavors, and perhaps we will see you again for another visit! Lisa & Scott

    Susan L, 5/22/24

A Slice of Heaven. we had a lovely stay with MaryJane. She shared her and  alpacas and fire flies. And I can see why this farm is called Sacred Acres, it really is a slice of Heaven.

    Leora B, 4/27/24

Kind and sincere host. Store was cool with reasonably priced alpaca from Peru. ALPACAS were beautiful. I was a bit intimidated by their size of 150 pounds, but was told they are like cat (docile, and indifferent). Still I kept the kids from walking behind them. Hosts were friendly and kind and taught the children interesting tidbits. We didn't spend the night as we had unexpected other plans, but enjoyed our brief visit.

    Clemence F, 4/28/24

Great time. we spent a really great and peaceful time with the host and her animals! Thank you for everything!

    Beth K, 4/21/24

Sacred Acres Farm. Fabulous experience with the ALPACAS. MaryJane was a gracious and informative host, learned a lot about ALPACAS! She couldn't have been more accommodating, would highly recommend.

    Patricia M, 2/26/24

incredible. Stay  - better appreciation for ALPACAS MaryJane was very welcoming. We were able to help with feeding and nightly routine. We drive a van. Parking was easy and area was very quiet.

    Brian B, 11/1/23

Very nice! I stayed here for one night last week. On my way to Charlottesville. The turn on to the property is pretty sharp, but it was doable with my 21 foot trailer. The owner gave me a great tour of her ALPACAS and I bought a few pairs of heavy socks, and Dick boot in church. The prices are not low, but the quality seems very good.

    Stephen S, 10/28/23 and 10/31/23

Magical Place. We loved our stay at this incredible host's home. We learned about the Alpacas and their amazing habitat! The host was beyond accommodating and we returned for another night. The acres and all the surrounding sights are indeed sacred! Can’t recommend enough!! ??

    Stacey F, 10/17/23

Great place for the night! We arrived late and left early the next morning, but the host was very gracious, and came to meet us when we arrived and gave us a quick tour in the morning to accommodate our schedule. Thank you so much - we'd highly recommend the stop!

    Lori Z, 9/18/23

Alpaca experience. MaryJane was a pleasure to meet, so passionate about her farm, workshop and store. The best Harvest Host experience so far.

    James A, 9/12/23

Carol and Jim. Wonderful, educational, and a fun experience feeding the babies. MaryJane, very friendly, accommodating, and informative, willing to share lots of information. Love to go back at sharing time, and also witness a birth of a new one as two are expected in the spring of 24. Flexible on where to park, so that is a plus.

    Susanne H, 8/25/23

Alpaca close by. We had a very warm, welcome from our host and were invited to accompany her on her evening routine with her lovely  alpacas. We even had the opportunity to give them some treats. Running the generator late into the night, due to the heat, was also no problem.

    William H, 7/10/23

Host, MaryJane, very hospitable. Really enjoyed our stay! MaryJane gave us a tour of the Alpaca Farm. She was fun to talk with. Her Shop and studio were interesting to see. All I suggest you have the street number in mind when, approaching, as driveway is not easy to see  as you are driving, even though it is well marked. The address number helped me locate it. Really enjoyed the stay!

    Jessica V, 6/20/23

Close to road, but worth it. We are used to being more remote when visiting farms show it surprise us how close we were to the road. Didn't bother us at all though, as we are used to boondocking and have done it just about everywhere! I'm only bringing it up because it's helpful to know if  you prefer a quiet and off the beaten path farm.

MaryJane was very nervous about us arriving only an hour before sunset, but we had no trouble at all, finding her driveway and getting situated before dark. If you are comfortable driving an RV, this is not a difficult location in the least bit. We appreciated the place to stay (and the water!) very much!

MaryJane was an absolute sweetheart, and even though she hadn't been feeling well, she took the time to come out and say hi and took us over to see the alpacas. We enjoyed them so much! The kids really enjoyed the print out with info about the alpacas, and we all learned something new! Beautiful little shop, and we loved the personal touch of knowing which alpaca the products came from. My kids especially liked the cards, cookie, cutters, finger, puppets, pens, and adorable, alpaca keychains that are so soft and fluffy. Definitely worth the stay!

    Stephen S, 10/28/23 and 10/31/23

We loved our stay at this incredible hosts home. We learned about the Alpacas and their amazing habitat! The host was beyond accommodating and we returned for another night. The acres and all the surrounding sights are indeed sacred! Can’t recommend enough??

    Charles W, 6/19/23

Checking out the alpacas. MaryJane was a great host, loved the alpacas. Enjoyed learning about the farm. Definitely a must see.

    John F, 6/14/23

Delightful visit. Great stop between Monticello and Appomattox. Beautiful shop for alpaca products and purchased yarn for a special project. MaryJane is a great hostess and loved meeting her four-legged family. Wish we lived closer to visit again!

    Patty T, 6/3/23

Patty, Steve,Tabitha. We stayed with MaryJane at Sacred Acres Farm, two nights, as we traded some labor for the second night. We got to watch wellness checks on the alpacas, which was fascinating. They are such sensitive beings. The farm is in a fantastic setting; very remote drive. MaryJane had a beautiful shop, from which she made [And sold]alpaca products. We did a fire fly viewing at dark, the first night....and a very educational nature hike on her pristine/wooded property, complete with a large creek. I would definitely recommend stopping here, to meet both Mj and her alpaca family....as both were completely amazing, and very lovable!!!!

    Maura K, 4/29/23

Lovely, peaceful stay. Wonderful host. Happy that our first Harvest Host stay was this lovely little alpaca farm. MaryJane, the farmer, was gracious and generous with her time, giving us a tour of the alpacas at sundown, and letting us feed some of them by hand. Parking was a choice of on gravel in front of the house or on grass near the fenced alpaca pastures of (with a better view), accessed by a short dirt driveway in good condition. The grass, so I was a bit on level but fine without leveling for the night for our class B then.

We had a huge rain storm during the night, and MaryJane offered to guide us across the grass to her gravel spot, because I was worried about getting stuck in the mud. MaryJane was so kind that she even offered us rain jackets because it was raining hard, and we had none. She opened the gift shop for us and showed us how she works with Alpaca Fiber for Sale to create things like hatch. There are all kinds of alpaca – related, souvenirs (from the farm as well as other suppliers) and alpaca yarn for purchase. We spent more than we intended for socks and yard but we were happy to support this small business. It made a real impression on my 10-year-old that MaryJane had taught herself about alpaca farming later in life; she was a great example to him of a lifelong learner, developing new passions and interest

I gave 4 stars for access just because of the dirt driveway but we had no problems at all accessing it even in rainy conditions. Grateful to MaryJane for her hospitality and time.

    Noelle Y, 4/21/23

Perfect adventure. Thank you, MaryJane, for a wonderful night at sacred acres. My teenage daughter, and I arrived mid-afternoon, and were introduced to the alpacas and the rules and weren't given a bucket to hand feed them. The alpacas were very friendly and gentle and didn't seem to mind our wandering around. Our evening parking spot was flat and easy to access in our class B. MaryJane taught us about fiber arts and processing alpaca for yard. The store is full of treasures. We are already talking about a trip back!

    Jean L, 3/9/23

Amazing Stay. The owner is so kind, took the time to explain us all about alpacas, helped her to feed the animals. Very quiet, nice surrounding.

    Dave K, 12/29/22

Furry critters and an awesome host. MaryJane is so kind, my Bride helped with feeding the alpacas and we learned about them. Star lit night helped make the stay memorable ... thank you Lord!

    Jeff M, 11/1/22

Lovely visit, lovely host. MaryJane was a kind and accommodating host. She taught us about her beloved alpacas and let us park right next to their sleeping area. In the morning she let them out and they were walking around our camper. It was really cool to see these curious and peaceful animals up close they are a little shy, but really inquisitive by nature.

our campsite was pretty level and easy to back into. We could hear some traffic from the main road, but it was relatively quiet. We really enjoyed our stay.

    Dawn P, 10/22/22

Alpaca, baby! we had an incredible stay with MaryJane! we got to help with the farm chores and our state was quiet and peaceful. I would 100% recommend! We bought some alpaca socks, and a skein of yarn.

    Alba M, 10/17/22

RV stay at Sacred Acres Farm.  Fabulous host with a wealth of alpaca knowledge, and the willingness to share it. We had a thoroughly lovely stay, and we were able to get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures. Thank you.

    Theresa M, 8/13/22

Lovely, alpaca, farm, best without bringing dog. We loved this farm; the alpacas are super sweet and the shop has lovely wares. RVers with dogs can't park in the alpaca pasture, but are asked to park near the road that has a lot of traffic noise. Would recommend this form to any travelers without dogs.

    Gene & Jean B, 8/6/22

Old pair of Jeans meet alpacas. The farm was a little hard to find (they will be putting a bigger sign shortly) but well worth persisting. MaryJane and her "alpaca whisperer" could not have been more friendly and accommodating. It was very hot when we got there and the alpacas were in the barns to escape the heat, so we stayed in the rig with the AC on as well. Next morning, when it was cooler, we went down to see the alpacas. Since Jean has mobility issues, MaryJane provided us with a golf cart, which was very helpful, and way more than we had any reason to expect. After we had a pleasant visit with the alpacas, we went into the store/studio where MaryJane told us all about working with the fleece and the classes she teaches there. All told, it was an interesting and informative visit to a delightful farm.

    Grady H, 6/8/22

MaryJane (“one word, capital J in middle” ??) was the highlight of our delightful stay.  She was so accommodating- the kind of host you join BW and HH to meet. With her permission before hand, we had some family members meet us there for a mini-family reunion/picnic.  Even with the understandable area restrictions for dogs (for safety and security of the alpacas) she worked to help us find suitable picnicking options (even mowing the area for us).  She made her golf cart available to us since some in our group had mobility challenges.  It rained during the time we had planned for the fatm tour, so we were not able to enjoy that on this trip, but plan another stay.  The Gift Shop is first class with a very pleasant seating nook which invites you to “sit a spell”.  The long accessibility ramp to the second floor of the barn where the gift shop is located is a unique feature in and of itself, and provides a great view of the farm.  The farm itself is difficult to see from the road, and caution needs to be taken when approaching the turn-in.  The highway can get busy at times, so just slow down as your GPS indicates you are close.  Parking between the house and wooded area provides a very pleasant view of the alpacas on pasture, and the main barn.  We found our leveling blocks useful.  The spot is full sun but our awning probided plenty of shade during the late afternoon/evening hours.  Some distant trees provide early morning shade. MaryJane provided us with a very informative brochure about the alpacas, which also inclided a map of the grounds/trails.  We were not able to take advantage of the trail system on this trip, but they look enticing (another reason we plan to return).

    Patty P, 4/1/2022

MaryJane was a great host. We unexpected came in after dark and she was kind enough to call us to coordinate to meet at the top of the drive with a light to make sure we didn't miss the property as we were driving by. In the morning, we were let into the gift shop early and even got to feed the alpacas. My kids and I were thrilled. Very quiet at night and lots of space to park.

    321 Camper Queen, 2/20/2022

Thanks so much to MaryJane for a wonderful visit. She took me on a great tour and I got to feed the alpacas and learn all about them. So fun! I loved the hats, socks, and soap I bought at the gift shop.

    Rene V, 2/18/2022

What a kind host! MaryJane communicated by email about what to expect. She greeted us when we drove up and took us on the tour to put all the alpacas to bed. The grounds have a lot of potential. They were hit hard by the storm in January and have been able to clear some of the trails. But that shouldn't stop you. She has a nice gift shop and donations are welcome to cover some of her expenses.

    Erin D, 1/22/2022

I arrived in January and Virginia had been hit hard the day before. I think they have had more snow since January 3rd than they have in years. MaryJane was quite nice to call me and tell me about the weather before my trip, I was going either way transporting a dog for a shelter, I told her I'm OK if you're  OK! I arrived a little late and called beforehand. She warned me I might not find the driveway if I came after sunset. I made it in time even with a drive by mistake. She met me outside and let me assist with her (alpaca) bedtime routine and taught me a bunch about alpacas and her farm. What a lovely place and so beautiful. I cannot wait for warmer weather to be able to see the trails and the alpacas romping in grass. Definitely put this one on your list.

    Craig T, 12/12/2021

We so enjoyed our visit to MaryJane’s Sacred Acres Alpaca Farm. She gave us a leisurely yet fact filled tour of her farm. She loves her group of 15 alpacas which she tenderly and skillfully cares for. We enjoyed, as well, a visit to her store featuring many alpaca products plus an opportunity to learn more about preparing their coats for processing. We bought a number of warm and stylish clothing items for the coming winter. Our parking spot while less than level was easily made level with blocks. While the highway was nearby it didn’t keep us from restful sleep. We would return again to take advantage of the trails where you can walk the alpacas. Ask about their “apricot” colored coats.

    GoodTimeCharlie, 11/06/2021

What a delightful experience we had at Sacred Acres Farm!  MaryJane, the farm owner was a very gracious and welcoming host and the alpacas were absolutely adorable! We learned some interesting facts about Alpacas and even followed MaryJane around as she got them ready "for bed"!  We would definitely recommend this location for a unique experience!

    Carol H, 09/16/2021

We stayed at MaryJane's alpacas farm on our way from PA back home in NC. MaryJane provided us with a wonderful tour of her farm - along with explaining the care, the history of her alpacas and their byproduct of wonderful soft/warm fiber. She is a remarkable lady who definitely loves her Alpacas and her farm life/business.

    Carolyn T, 10/16/2021

We could write a book on our stay at Sacred Acres. Our very 1st Harvest and so Blessed it started with MaryJane and her outstanding Alpacas. The tour of her farm on a golf cart was a nature loving experience. Her shop is outstanding. Before we had to leave, we were honored to hear her amazing singing voice. Thank you again ever so much MaryJane.

    Kathleen J, 06/27/2021

MaryJane is the sweetest host I've encountered on harvest hosts! She gave us an overview of the process and her history on getting into Alpaca farming. She let us accompany her during "bedtime" routine with the alpacas. Being from Colorado I can appreciate a great pair of wool socks so I bought a couple cute pairs...they are really soft. We enjoyed the quiet Darkness at night and the wonderful weather in the morning! Awesome for my kiddo too!

    Darcy M, 06/25/2021

I had the pleasure of staying with MaryJane at her Sacred Acres Alpaca Farm 6/25. Wow, what a lovely host and loving operation she has. I was fortunate enough to get an education about Alpacas and their heritage, and also learn about what an amazing lady MaryJane is! There are lots of hiking trails and various areas with picnic benches throughout her property! Highly recommend the educational tour and stroll she offers! Thank you MaryJane!

    Robyn E, 04/07/2021

We had a wonderful stay at Sacred Acres. The alpaca tour was fab and well worth the cost and much more. Our kiddos were able to feed the alpaca treats while MaryJane educated us about alpacas and her practices. Loved the experience. The store is also full of good merchandise. Great family stay for sure. Thank you, MaryJane!

    Lindsay N, 03/28/2021

MaryJane was a phenomenal host. The ground was pretty saturated so she set us up where we would be safest and most comfortable. We’re able to hike the trails on the property and meet all the alpacas. She taught us a ton about the animals and was able to pick up an awesome alpaca cap!
