Summer is here, it is time to have fun
We shed winter clothes to soak up the sun.
We put on some shorts and kick off our shoes,
And even the animals get new summer "do's."
Sheep and alpacas, even llamas get shorn
'Cause with all that fiber, they would be way too warm
Some are shorn standing, some prefer to lay down,
Some seem quite happy, but others just frown
They give us their fiber, fleece, wool and hair
Then run off to the pastures looking naked and bare,
But the story's not ended, it gets even better,
For that fleece will one day be a soft, cozy sweater
So don't laugh or point, they will know if you do.
Then they'll all turn around and look straight at you
For these animals’ gifts, given gladly this day
Will keep us all warm when snow comes our way.
