Description
The first time I saw Huckleberry was on his Openherd Rare Gem listing as a young cria. We didn't really expect to be able to get a Rare Gem baby, let alone an Apache Gentlemen son.
The second time was MOPACA in the show pen of Indian Point Hills Alpacas. I made myself walk away but I couldn't stop thinking about him, about the hoops I'd have to jump through to get a female bred to his sire, so he's now at our farm. Though Huck isn't a showy appy like his father, he's definitely got more than the two black spots that were noted at his birth. When sheared, it's easy to see he has some roaning and brown spots on his tail and a half dozen or so silver dollar sized medium brown spots across his back. With longer fleece, the spots are harder to see but they're definitely there.
We hope that once Huckleberry starts settling, we're going to get some lovely spotted babies down the road. A fan of western flicks like Tombstone, he's definitely our Huckleberry and we think well worth the gamble!
We don't always see the email notifications through Openherd right away, so if you're interested in a package deal, herdsire breedings or have questions about our alpacas contact us through Messenger or please text the contact number listed on our main Openherd farm page.

What his breeder said about Huckleberry:
This handsome young male is out of Accoyo America Shasta Daisy. Daisy is the daughter of 6X color champion, Accoyo America Jason. Jason is co-owned by Amber Autumn Alpacas and Little Creek Farm, LLC. Owner, Lynn Edens, comments on Jason... The offspring of a very successful pairing of Camilio siblings, Jason won the AOBA Nationals championship in brown three years running. It is rare to find such exquisite crimp, character and density in a deep red brown fleece. Even better, Jason has consistently reproduced those characteristics in his crias, and at such a high level that even his white offspring are consistently ribboning in the competitive white classes. He has produced champions in fawn and brown.
Huckleberry's sire is the highly expressive and wildly spotted harlequin appaloosa herdsire Apache Gentleman. This line carries legendary appaloosa / harlequin genetics on both sides of the pedigree. These exciting genetics are in high demand and several of Huckleberry's siblings have been exported to Europe. Huckberry is a solid youngster-- straight legs, lovely head style and a bright, dense, fine medium fawn fleece. Huckberry's harlequin appaloosa sire throws appaloosas and harlequins >80 percent of the time.
