Goat, Recorded Grade/Alpine/Oberhasli, Sr. Doe (female) | Bay with Correct Black Markings
We’ve found ourselves more excited than we ever expected to be about this yearling recorded grade milker!Due to some unusual circumstances in the 2024 breeding season, we didn’t have an Oberhasli buck available when the girls needed to be bred. Instead of sitting out the season, we decided to take a chance and utilize one of the high-quality Alpine bucks we had on hand — and wow, are we glad we did. This doe was used as an ET recipient this year, as we truly weren’t sure what to expect from this cross. What we got, however, far exceeded any expectations. She’s a clean 50% Alpine / 50% Oberhasli and, even with the outcross, she conforms beautifully to Oberhasli breed standards — correctness, balance, and style all wrapped into one impressive young doe.Going into this, I fully expected recorded grades to be a short-term stopgap in our breeding program. But when one comes along this correct, this productive, and this promising, plans have a way of changing. Needless to say… looks like we’re keeping a recorded grade around and breeding up!This girl has likely earned her place here, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for her in the milking string and beyond. Sometimes the unexpected breedings turn out to be the ones that change your program — and this is definitely one of those cases. She is headed to her first show on 4/25 and we are anxious to see how she looks with a show fill!
