    Our yarn has arrived!!

Well by the calendar spring is here, by the weather it doesn't feel spring like yet. The second weekend of April we attended the Alpaca Ontario Annual Spring Show in Orangeville. We had four entries in the Mary-Ann English Spin Off Competition and we won 4 “1st place ribbons with scores of 89/100 for Rosebud, 91/100 for Kanata, 92.5/100 for Shadow, plus 1 ribbon for Highest Score in Colour by High Plains Elvis with a score of 98.5/100. We are very pleased with these results. We also received 2 “4th place ribbons for our grey yearlings" Sweet Pea and Suede. Our fibre from last years shearing has returned from the mill and has been transformed into wonderful yarns, rovings and felted insoles. We have a great variety of yarns available for you to choose from; 100% alpaca, alpaca blended with bamboo, merino, soy silk, tencel, we have 2 ply lace weight, 3 plys, sport weight and lopi's, all natural colours no dyed yarns. The colours range from light silver grey to dark grey, black, deep chocolate brown, light brown, tan, golden beige and a beautiful rose grey yarn. Pictures will be posted on our Products webpage as soon as we get it all labeled. Of course you can always stop by the farm or the Flesherton Farmers Market and buy your yarn in person. While most farmers harvest their crops through the summer and fall we will begin harvesting this years crop of fibre the first weekend of May. Hopefully the weather will be warmer and stay warmer by then. Our alpacas were toasty warm all winter with their fluffy coats on but if it gets too cold after they have been sheared they may well feel the chill. Of course once shearing is done the cycle begins again of planning what to do with over 200 pounds of fibre! We have updated the Products page on our website with many of the products we sell, please be sure to check it out. What are we missing? Please let us know what type of alpaca items would you like us to sell? Cria season is just around the corner. This year we are expecting six crias and our first cria is due May 21st. We will be sure to post pictures. We always welcome farm visits. We now have an OPEN sign so if you happen to be in the area and we are OPEN please stop in. If you are coming any distance please call ahead to make sure we will be home. Remember to check out our facebook page, it is updated with photos more often than the Farm News. Have a pronking day!
