Going beyond the Blanket

Welcome to our site :) We bought our first alpacas over 30 yrs ago when we fell in luv with them after seeing them in a critters magazine. We realized shortly after buying our first 2 alpacas that all alpacas were not of the same quality. We realized if we wanted to compete in the show ring and be recognized as producing top breeding stock, that we had to acquire top quality stock, focusing on frame and fibre traits. We bought subscriptions to various magazines and attended shows to check out other breeders animals and listen to what judges had to say. Later using the internet to see what the rest of the world was producing. Through experience we realized it is not only about the fleece and frame, but also the temperament, mothering and reproductive abilities, using Impact Studs with a calm, showy presence , with the ability to continually reproduce high quality animals, able to compete on the world stage. For the last 10+ years we have focused on going beyond the blanket to the ears and knees, stretching the crimp, consistency and staple length. We also have been using males and females that have 10 plus lbs. of annual fibre production, that continues well into maturity. We strive to eliminate guard hair in the neck, bibs and arm pit areas. Our animals our being recognized by Judges and breeders for their fleece length, density and absence of guard hair. Our herd is diverse in color and age and we have culled hard to get an elite breeding stock, which are producing highly advanced fleeces on animals that we can confidently pass on to our colleges and customers . If your a new or experienced breeder we are confident that our stock will help advance ur breeding programs. We have are experiencing great success with Line breeding MFI & TNT Peruvian Foundation offspring, solidifying positive traits with no negative side effects. Bonding positive attributes that are favorable for high quality fleece, strong/solid conformation, healthy, with presence, calm personality, dams with lots of milk and strong mothering instincts. This has advanced our goals at a much faster rate of growing 20 lbs. of 20 micron fibre into the later years of life. We can now see the longevity of fleece quality and production in our older animals, extending years of top quality fibre production. Years ago it was the norm to have animals at 3 to 5 years of age producing 1/2 the fibre length and weight of their yearling fleeces, many with guard hair creeping into the blanket and covering the neck and bib area. Many in our herd are now producing high quality neck fibre, in both length and micron, close to blanket quality as they age, producing 1 to 2 inches more fibre across the animal as they age. Check out the over all quality of our alpacas, their show placements and their bloodlines. We wish Great success to all breeders!

Our breeding program delivers

We are consistently upgrading our breeding techniques to get the best optimal outcome in our progeny. By using Impact males and line breeding their progeny, we are seeing a high consistency of bright, highly aligned fibres, with exceptional penciling across the whole body, neck and to the knees. We are still focusing on big fleece weights, with long staple lengths, that hold with age, and when the time is right introduce BL Ziba and BL Over The Top back in to achieve this. The last couple years we have bred more color into our herd. We have had Strong showings at the CNASF the last few years, (where animals are shown full fleece) in front of a variety of Judges.
