Welcome to Barbwire Ranch
Barbwire Ranch is located in the beautifully rural equestrian area of Los Angeles called Shadow Hills. This area of the San Fernando Valley is known for agriculture and small farms. It is a wonderful place to raise and keep alpaca.
At Barbwire Ranch, we focus on the care and breeding of Suri alpacas. Although these are not the typical fluffy alpacas that you are used to seeing on social media, Suris are incredibly valuable because of their fine fleece. The Suri is renowned for its long locks and lustrous shine and were considered to be as valuable as gold by the Incan royalty. The fiber of the Suri alpaca is soft, shiny, and cold to the touch. Suris are known for their "dreadlocks" and quirky temperament.
The Ranch is home to two livestock guardian dogs, Pearl and Leo. Pearl is a Great Pyrenees and Leo is an Armenian Gampr. This pair of guardians is exceptional at guarding our alpaca from the local coyotes. They are excellent with children, mild with other animals, and cuddly with their favorite people. Pearl is a renowned escape artist - just visit our Instagram for proof :)
