We are excited to be partnered with Gerald and Colette Peterson of Feather and Fur Ranch since September 2024. With our combined expertise and resources, we are taking Suri and Huacaya genetics to the next level! Our alpacas moved to their new ranch in Winlock, WA in May 2026. Twenty stunning acres of green pasture which provides plenty of room for our growing herd.
Our mission is to produce the highest quality alpaca seed stock: conformationally correct and healthy; uniform, dense and finely fibered, good-natured alpacas. Our stud females are easy birthers with great mothering skills and our stud males are strong framed and easy to handle.
We are honored that most of our white foundation herd have Top 1%- 5% rankings in the 2026 EPDs fleece traits. In addition, most of our color herd including blacks and browns have at least Top 25% EPD rankings.
We believe in using state of the art quantitative data tools, such as histograms, EPDs and skin biopsies, to measure the success of our breeding program and improve our seed stock with every generation. We shear all of our alpacas every year, including suri juveniles, to accurately assess annual fiber trait progress and to utilize the fiber in our end market products. We utilize the Suri Network S.H.I.P program to independently evaluate our Suri alpacas by outside experts. We measure fineness and uniformity annually on every animal in our herd. Data driven breeding decisions ensure quality results and drive our breeding program advancements.
Big Timber’s alpacas compete in the top national shows winning championships and judges choice awards as well as "Advanced Fleece" awards.
We have a wide array of home-grown alpaca fiber and fiber products for sale including 100% alpaca yarns, rug yarns, roving and raw fiber. Our online store, Big Timber Weaving Studio, exclusively offers our Suri and Huacaya alpaca fiber and hand-woven products that are made in Oregon. We are also a juried vendor selling at the Red Sled store in Sherwood OR open from October to Christmas every year.
Sue is an active volunteer who has served the alpaca industry as President of the Suri Network, President of the Alpaca Association of Western Oregon (AAWO), President of CABA and served on many national industry committees. In addition, Big Timber Alpacas is a member of the Alpaca Owners Association, Suri Network, CABA, PNAA, and CALPACA.

The 2026 EPDs show virtually all of our light foundation herd has Top 1-5% EPD fleece trait rankings, and most our dark foundation herd ranks in theTop 25% or lower EPDS!
