Welcome to Leisure Ranch Alpacas
The Leisure Ranch, established in 2014, is the result of what happens when two people, who both had stressful careers, decide to leave the rat race and embark on a journey to a less hectic and more sustainable lifestyle. We embarked on a journey of breeding and selling Suri Alpacas and learning the ins and outs of Alpaca farming. As neither of us came from a farming background there was definitely a lot to learn!
Over the years we have learned how to breed, birth, shear and care for our Alpaca herd, focusing on breeding quality healthy alpacas and producing exceptional fiber. We have attended numerous seminars and training on how to properly care for Alpacas and continue to educate ourselves on breeding and healthcare.
Our goal and committment is to bread all around healthy animals with exceptional fiber. We send fiber samples from our animals to a lab to determine the quality of our fiber and to direct our breading decisions.
The ranch was purpose built for raising Alpacas, with a focus on proper housing and pasture management. The health and wellbeing of our Alpaca herd is of the utmost importance to us and our top priority. We want happy healthy and stress free alpacas!
Our goal is to maintain a sustainable approach to Alpaca farming. Our business decisions for the ranch always focuses on the impact the decision will have on our animals, the land, our community and the abundant wildlife we are blessed to have on our property. We are conscious of our herd size, making sure we have the adequate barn and pasture space to accommodate our herd. We do not believe in crowding alpacas into small spaces, as this can cause a lot of stress in the herd, not to mention the risk of parasite problems, which will ultimately affect the quality of their fiber. You can have the best genetics, but if you don’t have a healthy animal it will certainly affect the quality of the fiber they are producing.
As part of our sustainable approach we compost our manure throughout the year and use this to fertilize our pastures, vegetable garden and flower dye garden.
We are processing our own fiber with the focus on producing fiber products right here on the ranch. Our goal is to produce a farm raised, farm processed and farm made product. We have an onsite farm store where we sell our products to our ranch visitors and have now embarked on offering educational classes centered around the fiber arts and fiber processing. We host visitors through Harvest Host and offer farm tours.
We love to share and educate our visitors on the farming lifestyle, so come visit and let us show you our approach to Alpaca farming.
